Okey dokey, Here I am again in a muddle ... As part of my research into what Ofsted have been up to since their invention in 1992 ... Would you say that since the new EYFS framework Ofsted are focusing on Safeguarding more than anything else? Have looked through Helen's articles and there isn't a clear pattern although that's not what I've heard anecdotally. If you've been inspected under the new framework... Would you say Safeguarding is the biggie? Can you get Outstanding if you don't get Outstanding for Safeguarding? What are your experiences? Any responses would be gratefully recieved Thankyou muchly pw xxx

I'm trawling through the biggest pile of papers at the moment trying to find a date and a reference for when Ofsted took over inspection of PVI settings. Have gone through 1990 Rumbold report with recommendations for inspections - into 1992 Education act which was birth of Oftsed for maintained settings .... what happened next?? I probably know the answer but brain has gone to mush! Thankyou in anticipation of someone not having a mush head like mine! pw xxx

Hi All, I am reading ( not for a course just for fun, ha!) a book by above lady on Learning stories and assessment. I believe a lot of the EYFS is based on her work in new Zealand? Anyway, I like what she's saying which is basically (I think) that observations over time in a well-contextualized situation are more meaningful than formal assessments. I am also reading a book at the moment about the Reggio approach which obviously has a lot of similarities to M.C and Co. But mind in a muddle.... hard to let go of some of my 'tried and tested over 15 years' teacher habits. I run a new Pre-school and when we opened in Sept. we did lots of observation (and …

My tutor emailed me this today, I thought it made interesting reading so I'd thought I'd share it. Not sure if this is the right place for this, but I'm sure it will be redirected if it isn't! Karrie Early_Childhood_in_Focus_1.pdf

I have been doing some research into the historical context of planning for individual needs and interests and I have been directed to the Rumbold Report. Having read through it, I have found lots in there to support my essay but I am a tad confused about what came next! In everything I have read so far, it seems that the report paved the way for the CGFS. However, in between the report being published and the CGFS being published, there were Desirable Learning Outcomes. So my question is, did the DLO's come about as a result of the recommendations from the Rumbold Report or was it the CGFS? Also, before the DLO's, how was planning managed in settings? I didn't jo…

Hi again, I would like to show some images of the children to a group, but I don't have permission for two of the children. As they are part of a group photo, I was wondering how I can screen or dim in any way their faces whilst still keeping them in the photo frame. I've seen it done to some imges which have been put onto this forum. Hope this makes sense? Thank you sunshine

Hi ...no I haven't got a circular schema before you ask (hee hee)! I researching schemas (to prepare a handout for use in 0-5yr settings). I have found a number of them but am getting bogged down by the variety of names and I'm sure I'm confusing some with others. I have listed these: • Dynamic horizontal/vertical (also known as trajectory) • Dynamic circular (also known as rotation) • Enveloping • Enclosure/containing (also known as going round a boundary) • Transporting • Circularity • Connection • Positioning • Transforming am I correct?

Hi all ! I've been set some research which is to find two theorist in support of an opinion that I have and one against, it also must have a clear link to the EYFS. I can find many theorists to support my opinion but finding it hard to find opposing theorists. My opinion was the importance of outdoor play, so I'm thinking I will have to find another opinion/topic. But even doing that I keep coming up with the same problem. I did think about the importance of nature/nurture, but not wanting to sound like a complete idiot, I'm not sure how this would link into the EYFS. Is there anyone out there that can point me in the right direction ? I seem to be unab…
