I have been asked to review a job description for a Children's Centre Teacher. I am wondering if anyone would be able to share an example job description - especially if it has been updated? Also things have developed and moved on since CC teachers were first 'invented', so it would also be great to hear what what anyone with that role now does. I would be really grateful for any help with this. Gruffalo

Hi, have any centres / settings had any luck with visits from dentists, data for my area shows that tooth decay in young children is a real issue. I've downloaded some resources from sparklebox etc but wondered if anyone else had any luck or ideas.

Hi all, We are commencing Bookstart Corner in the new year. Would anyone like to share any tips/ suggestions? We are particularly interested in how you "sell it" to Parents. Do you offer one to one or group sessions. Thanks in advance, Natalie

Hi Does anyone have any experience of using an app on an ipad that can be used by staff and parents to create a learning journey for children that attend stay and play sessions and crèche sessions in a children’s centre? Everything I can find seems to be aimed just at staff being able to input into it Thanks Jess West Hill Childrens Centre Wandsworth

Sure Start Children’s Centres The House of Commons Education Select Committee has published the fifth report of Session 2013-14 on Sure Start Children’s Centres. It shows that Sure Start children’s centres are essential for families and must be seen as a priority and adds credible weight to the case for Children’s Centres becoming a one stop shop and community cornerstone where all families can find the help they need to flourish. The report sets out ways to refine expectations around the role, performance, outcomes and accountability of Children’s Centres and Local Authorities. To move forward, everyone should have a clear expectation of the integral role that Childr…

Hi all I am doing a bit of research with the local authority as they are defining what constitutes a registration or identification of a family and also a contact - e.g a signed document by the parent (reg form) easily counts, a new birth info from the registrar is an identification not necessarily registration. Anyway, they are after examples from other local authorities if they are a local agreement as what you can and can't count in attendance and contact to the children's centres..... I didn't know if anything exists? And if it does could you share? Thank you in anticipation :-)

Hello everyone, I posted recently to say that I have just started in a new post. I'm finding it enjoyable but at the same time so difficult to get my head around! At the moment I m finding my timetable the most dificult thing to adjust to! I'm working with the 0-3 s for two days a week- (supporting staff, and modelling etc) and then the other three a combination of shadowing, meetings and pre school visits. I would really like to know honest opinions on my timetable situation which I don t really feel 100% comfortable with...... My issue is that on my days with the 0-3, I am counted as a part of the ratio which I'm finding quite difficult in terms of being ther…

Audit tool for Stay & Play groups
by Guest- 4 replies

I have been asked to provide an audit tool for our Stay and Play groups and am hoping someone can help me. The idea is for someone (possible me!) to observe the way the groups run i.e. the environment, interactions with parents and children etc. I thought I could adapt ECERS but would rather not have to 're-invent the wheel' if something already exists. Thank you in advance (and in hope) Gruffalo2

Are any children's centres near you under threat? The one near us seems to be open less and less as time goes on and there does not seem to be a huge interest in it in the local community probably because it is quite affluent. The question is should it shut to preserve others which are more used? If so what happens to the building which was developed for the purpose? What was the point in opening it just to give up so soon? It all seems quite sad but, then if they keep attacking our funding, we may not stay open forever either.
