Parent/child Programmes

Has anyone come across any programmes that can be delivered at parent/child sessions that target either the issue of healthy eating, obesity, etc. or the importance of developing children's confidence and self-esteem? These two issues are ones that we have identified as priorities in our Centre development plan and we're currently looking around to see if there are any national programmes or guidelines that we could deliver or base some sessions on. Ideally we'd like something where parent and child attend together, or where a creche is provided for some of the session and for the other part we're all together. The only one I've come across so far is the Mini-Mend p…

Stay And Play Sessions

I would like to set up some quality parent and toddler groups at the children's centres to support parents' understanding of child development, importance of play, healthy choices in food and activities and behaviour management strategies. All these need to 'happen' though modelling of expected behaviour and giving parents the opportunity to learn from the group leader and from each other. Does anyone have good ideas or lesson plan structures for these parent and child session? thanks

Baby Clothing Swap
by Guest- 5 replies

We are thinking of starting one up to run alongside the parent groups. Do you use a voucher system and insist someone brings something to swap? Or do you just give away the clothing? I was wondering if we just give them a token when they bring something and then they ecvhange the token for another item of clothing. Do you use sites like freecycle to get clothes to swap? Thanks. Sorry to keep posting on here with so many questions, but it's so valuable to have someone else's experinces and views.

Hi to you both, just thought I would say Hello and wish Mozart luck for her new job, are you starting soon? Well I have survived a few weeks as a CC teacher and each week it gets a bit easier. I have had real school withdrawal and every time I go near a school, any school I feel like rushing into Foundation and shouting "I need to teach" The people at the centre are all very friendly and the other 5 new teachers in the LA are great and we have bonded well as a group. Still not sure if this is really the role for me but it is still very early days Bex

Drop-in Sessions - A Few Questions!
by Guest- 8 replies

A few questions! Do you get parents/childminders to complete a registration form for your stay and play sessions? What info do you ask them for? Do you evaluate your sessions or have to provide evidence of how the sessions are going/what is discussed? Also, does anyone have any ways they found particularly efective to get young parents along to a group? We are fnding it quite difficult as our HV's are extremely busy and obviously with data protection they can't hand over all their contact details. We have to liase with them to get bits posted out or to try and get permission from the parents for us to have their contact details and it's all very long winded! Trying po…
