Hi everyone I have an interview next week for a children's centre teacher post and I am finding it difficult to really get my head around what an average week for a teacher in a CC looks like. I am currently a foundation stage coordinator in a 2 form entry reception unit at a primary school. This new post would be a vast change but I am not unhappy in my job just feel like I would like to try something new? Am I doing the right thing, the jobs are on teachers pay and conditions how does that work when everyone else works all year round. How do experienced staff feel about a teacher coming in to 'advise' The job description says 50% teaching Help!! Bex

Do We Honestly Need Any More?

I went across to my local CC last week with a colleague not involved in early years but as an advisor to me. Beautiful building, superb equipment. This is one of TEN in my borough. My friend asked the manager when were they opening? HORROR. At 2.00pm on a Friday there were NO CHILDREN, NO PARENTS and saw TWO staff on duty. The irony is that they have been open over 6 months. Please government stop pouring money into facilites that arent needed. I have no objection if they are. But does my local authority, a small one need ten? Obviously not.

Creche Within A Children's Centre
by Guest- 18 replies

Hi I work in a creche within a chidren's centre that provides 1 or 2 2-hour long sessions every day. Many of the children use the creche on a weekly basis and the creche is often these childrens first and only experience of an early years setting before they start preschool. I would be very interested in hearing about any other chidren's centres that operate creches, and in particular whether they manage to operate a key worker system (we don't) and/or have any particular quality standards that they work to, since creches fall outside the remit of EYFS and compulsory Ofsted regulation.

I have been asked to give a presentation on: 'How will you lead the learning across the Children's Centre, taking into account the wide variety of settings and levels of understanding of the EYFS' Does anyone have any ideas?

Childminder Drop-in

Hi everyone, I am new to this site but was wondering if anyone out there has any planning ideas for a childminder drop-in once a week were their base is a children`s centre. The sessions last for 2 hours once a week so it would have to be short. Also any advice with regards to observations and the childminders are now legally obligated to deliver the EYFS but on a much reduced scale. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Children Centre Teacher

Hello there! I have recently been appointed as a Children's Centre Teacher. My new post is due to start this September and I m feeling a bit of a mix of nerves and excitement. It just feels so different to be starting as more of a 'floaty' person than a class teacher. I'm sure it will take some getting used to. I have been fortunate to visit the Centre and everyone seems to be lovely and supportive. My post is a new one and I will be working alongside another established CCTs , so hopefully I can shadow them a bit. Is there anyone else in the same boat as me? Any tips, advice or useful resources would be much appreciated. Bluebell

Free Nursery Place For 2 Year Olds

How does everyone feel about this? I personally think its a good idea. Both as a provider and as a grandmother. I think we are on the dawn of free childcare from birth and why not? As long as thee parent can choose the provider with the payment going straight to provider it will work.

Taking Two Year Olds Out And About
by Guest- 9 replies

Staff working with 2 year olds at a Children's Centre I work with have been told they aren't allowed to take the 2 year olds out of the nursery garden (not even into the neighbouring school grounds let alone in the local community), yet the 3 and 4 year olds are allowed out. Does anyone have a policy on visits for two year olds, or a completed risk assessment, for example for a trip to the local greengrocers, that I could share with them to give them something to share with the powers that be to enable them to take the 2 year olds out? Thanks in anticipation Mabel
