Outdoor Play
by Guest- 4 replies

Hello - Was wondering if someone can give me some advice. We have a new children's centre on our site and the manager seems to be under the impression the foundation stage playground is now hers. She has mentioned to other staff (not myself as manager) that she will give out a timetable for usage! I understand that she is representing 'health' but I think I need some good evidence to give to her to show we must have access to outdoor play freely also. Is it in writing anywhere - any official time recommendations - someone mentioned to me that kids should be outside for 50% of their day but can't find any evidence to support this. Have also checked EYFS docs and have …

The Esme Fairbairn Foundation and Capacity Ltd have published some research into whether Children's Centres are meeting their objectives in reaching the most excluded families. They have been studying four centres who demonstrate models of best practice, and offer a critique of the methods used. I haven't read it all, but one thing stood out: that a key to the success of the centres under discussion was the quality of the leadership and the knowledge and understanding of practitioners about the effects of poverty and disadvantage on both children and families. I quote: "In all four centres, the expertise and depth of experience of those leading the work was very…

Hi All Can anyone help me with an example of a No Outdoor Shoes Policy please. We move into a brand new building soon which includes a babyroom and the manager has asked me to produce and implement one, to ensure the flooring remains hygenic for the children. I would be really grateful for any feedback and ideas of how to produce a policy and also examples of any problems we may encounter implementing it. With a great deal of thanks in advance Minx

Also does anyone else carry out assessments of children from groups? if so how do you do this and what do you do with it once the child has left the centre? does it feed into their school or is it simpley for your benefit? hello, I seem to be posting on here lots at the moment! i have moved local authorities to set up a CC and its all done so differently i can't really make many common links! I am just wondering if anyone charges for certain activities in the centre for example when private providers offer a service like yoga bugs etc. do you have a charging policy? It was something i was quite suprised by when i first started as i thought all activities should be free and open to all but apparenly we have to get an income so we rent out the space making sure the service fits with our ethos! Phase 2 CC seem to work very differently!! any advice or shared expieriences would be very hel…

Hi all, I have an interview for a children's centre teacher on Thursday. I feel the role could suit me. I need to prepare a circle time activity for a mixed group of nursery children, which I would love to do. I now need some people to share my ideas with It is tricky to plan for a group of children that you don't know. I was thinking along the lines of - an animal activity, naming and talking about animal's appearance using toy animals followed by some animal songs or - a counting activity where they have to count the number of children in group and some dice games or number songs How have other people tackled this? obv I need to be ready to adapt th…

hi all, there seems to be this big issue at our childrens centre regarding what name the children call you. we are attached to a school so some feel they should stick with miss or mrs etc. the reasoning being as they move up school or rest of school need to know you, surname would be more appropriate. on the other side first names create easiy going feel and children or parents might relate tho this help what is your opinion what are you called and does it really matter or not thank you xx
