Hi all I've not lost my marbles, - just interested and not really clued up on Children's Centres etc. but was wondering how the Childcare provider bit actually works in practice? How do they operate? Do they rent the premises? Who is their employer? Who pays the childcare staff wages, insurance etc. Can they still be Private, Voluntary or Independant or is it usually run by the LA? The idea behind the Children's Centre principle fascinates me (am I such a sad person??) and I would love to find out more (only out of my own personal interest). As most of these Centres are built on existing school/nursery sites What happens to the existing children and staff who attended th…

I've just seen an advuert for a childrens centre coodinator and am just wondering if any of you know what this entails. I've asked for details but it's gonna take a couple of days to get here and i'm being very impatient and want to know now! So any comments would be gratefully received! (To be honest i know very little about children centres!) Thanks.

Hi, I am really interested to know whether you get to spend time working with the children when you are a Children's Centre Teacher or if you have found it is more of an advisory role than a teaching role. I am currently hoping to find a Children's Centre post and would love to know more about it. Thanks!

Hi. In my secondment to a local children's' centre as the outreach teacher, I'm trying to put together a questionnaire for the children to ask them about their views of the provision. We did a similar at school recently but Ive left all the paperwork there and I cant for the life of me remember the questions. Ive considered questions alike what do you like/dislike dong, who their friends are, what you have learned, what they know or think about going to school etc, but I wanted some 'meatier' questions too. Anyone done this with their children (ages 3-4) willing to share some questions with me? thanks...

Powerpoint Interview Help
by Guest- 5 replies

I have an interview next Monday for Children's Centre Deputy/Teacher. I have been informed that I can use power point for the two presentations that I have to do. I have been reading the 'good and bad training' thread with interest and how dull it is when someone puts words up on the screen and then reads from it so I am trying to think how I could do these presentations so that they are a little bit different and so that the interviewers do not switch off. During interviews I get quite nervous and my voice tends to lose all animation and so I need to rely on the presentation to be stimulating and interesting. If anyone can help I would be extremely grateful. …

a childrens centre is going to open near me. I have just taken on the management of the after school and holiday care at a school and we will be moving into the centre when/if it opens next year. it will be built near enough on the school site. The rest of the centre will be used for family support/information advice, health advice etc. so ours is the only care that is offered within the centre. (other care in school nursery). I saw the plans at a meeting and was pleased with layout, however, on consideration afterwards and with the staff i think it may be a little small, 55m2 is the indoor space that we have. (so about 7m by 8m) we register for 24 we curent…

Could you kindly share your opinions on how many children you consider should be with one adult? This would be from ages 3 to 5/6. A friend of mine is looking for a school for her child, who will become 3 on the last days of August. She is also concerned that he might be the youngest of his class since most of the children have to be 3 years old by the 1st of Sept. They live in the U.S.A. Thanks in advance !

Hi Can anyone help? Surestart have just given the go ahead for a new children's centre in our area. We are the only preschool setting in the area. We have 45 children registered with us from age 2 to nearly 5. We run 10 sessions a week during term time only. We currently use a community building but it is likely to be sold soon. We would like to be included in the children's centre and the headmaster at the local school is very supportive. Does anyone have any similar experience, or advice? thanks in advance Pip

Transformation Fund

Does anyone know whether Children's Centres can access the Transformation Fund - I'm getting a lot of conflicting information at the moment! And does it matter whether or not the Children's Centre was a Surestart first in decisions about allocating Transformation funding? I want to start the EYPS in September and the Transformation Fund seems to be my only funding option?
