Top Tips And Advice!

I've been a QTS attached to a Children's Centre for about eight months now (0.5 position) and am still very much feeling my way as far as my role and responsibilties are concerned. It's becoming clear to me, both through chatting to people in the authority where I work and through reading the posts in this forum, that there are a lot of queries and uncertainties regarding these positions on a national scale and that lots of other people are also "feeling their way". Has anybody got any "top tips" for someone new to the job like me? How do you manage your time effectively, how do you prioritise what needs to be done, have you found any publications, courses, meetings…

I pulled into the car park this morning to be greeted by the sight of a JCB Turned out that the powers who be made a decision (without consulting anyone) that the school field would be the best place to build our new children's centre This is accessed via a narrow residential back street (sure the residents will be overjoyed) and is situated as far as it is possible to get from the FSU So the JCB dug 10 foot deep exploration trenches to see if the ground is suitable for building which meant the children could not use the school field (actually not sure how much field will be left if the go ahead and build) Oh Joy

hi I know there have already been quite a few postings about the role of a QTS in a children's centre but I'd be really interested to hear from people who have been doing the job a while now. I start in September but have visited my centre a lot over the summer - it's attached to a school. I'm finding it so different from teaching (I was head of nursery in a small infant school) but looks like it's going to be a fantastic challenge. I'd really appreciate people saying what their role has turned out to be and if they have any advice for a newbie! Thanks Jan xx

Is there anyone out there who is already in post? What's involved? Are you on teacher's pay and conditions? Reason for asking. I'm thinking of applying for a post as a children's centre teacher.

I am a qualified teacher appointed at the beginning of term to work in a Children's Centre. My role is still being developed and I would be interested to hear how teachers are working in other centres. At the moment the main role seems to be easing transition through the settings from 0 to 5. I would appreciate feedback from any practioner working in a Children's Centre as my role until now has been in a school foundation stage unit.

Hi Would love to hear from anyone who works in a Sure Start Children's Centre, especially if you have been involved with all the changes from converting from previous setting into a Children Centre. At present we are an Early Years Centre and our building work is underway. The baby and toddler unit will be finished in about 10 weeks and needs furnishing etc. The whole thing won't be completed until May 2005 and we are now at the point of thinking about paperwork, ways to communicate with parents and policies etc for the under 2's area. I would appreciate any advice others can give me and would like to thank those who have already offered guidance and tips. …
