First Week At Nursery

Hello everyone..... Almost the start of a new school year......how scary... I have been put into Nursery this year and after completing 50 home visits I can see lots of issues arising in speaking, listening and communication..... I know these sounds silly but what actually do you do with the children on the first few days....obviously you would not go straight into looking at numeracy and literacy......I know that it is vital for the chn to feel settled and PSED is what needs to be the focus..... What activities have you done in the past that have worked with your chn in the first few days? Like getting to know you activites.......and talking about rul…

I work in a children's centre and our Wrap around care are getting ready to send home learning journeys. We want to add a bit for parents to make comments on them and send back to us. We need it to be very parent friendly perhaps with prompts as to what to write about. I was wondering if anyone had anything like this that I could have a look at Thanks

Oh my word. I have just been invited to go for an interview on TUESDAY! The position is Early Years Practitioner at a Sure Start Children's Centre attached to a school. My current EYPS placement is in a Sure Start Children's Centre so I have experience of multi-agency working etc, but only as a student... I'm so unprepared... I have only just finished my degree - don't officially graduate til November. I don't have my EYP qualification yet and won't get it until at least November (if I pass first time). I don't have a level 3 as I went straight from A Levels so I don't have "practitioner status" without my EYPS... I'm so confused. Can anyone help me? I've neve…

I've been employed on a temporary contract for 6 months as a Children's Centre teacher, however a reduced budget has put my role in the firing line and I am being asked to work as an EYP. Is anyone else in the same position? I've been asked to see if I can find a job description for an EYP employed in a CC. Can anyone help or offer advice?

Planning From Observation

I work in a Children's centre and have been asked to do planning for stay and play sessions. I have worked for years in Early years and have always planned from the interests and needs of the children. Can I ask whether you mostly plan from the children or whether you have a half term topic decided by an adult and plan to that? It is obviously very different when you don't have the same children in all the time

Early Years Worker In Cc

I am really on here to pick some brains (please) Is anyone employed as an Early Years Worker in a Childrens Centre that does not have any nursery provision at all - but only operates 'drop in' parent and tots type of groups? If so, what is your role as EY worker? How do you plan and are you expected to follow the EYFS even though there are no children in your care? Really intrigued to hear from anyone in that situation.

Power Rangers

We have a fortnightly drop in session. This week the role play was a generic dressing up with dolls, post box, paper etc which the girls loved. The boys however were really into power rangers and were playing together in the usual 'fighting' manner!! I am new to working in CC's and have been asked to plan the next session - I am keen to incorporate the boys interests and extend it where possible (particularly because I think they were nearly school age, and I was a Reception teacher), but am not really sure how to do this, as they may not be there next time, I don't want to stop the girls play, we run in a village hall so we don't have access to all resources like in a p…

Hello everyone! Just a quick note to say goodbye! I will be starting a new job after Christmas (not in Early Years) and although I will still try to visit the Forum, it won't be as often as I would like I enjoy reading all the posts and like how we can all put our brains together to share our wisdom. Wishing you all a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

hi got interview on friday for this position can anyopne help with what questions they will ask, or tasks i might have to do. I Hate the question about weaknesses and strengths as you don't want to come across as lacking in anything or been to boastful, so any tips on answers would be great. or if you are a support worker, what do you do in a typical day any info would be greatly apprieciated. thanks alison
