Family Support Worker

Hi all, I am currently thinking about becoming a FSW and hopefully have managed to get a voluntary placement in our new Children's Centre which opens next month. I currently have NVQ CCLD level 3 but wondered if anyone could point me in the right direction for any further training or courses I could do to help me should a paid job come up. The problem is I could really do with studying from home rather than attending college and have found a couple of courses which might be relevant - 'Counselling children + adolescents' and 'Social work with children and families'. Does anyone have any other suggestions before I part with any money? Thanks

We are looking at how we listen to children in our childrens centre and how we include them in making decisions (draw pictures, take photos, asking the children what they want to do in a session, involving them in planning) Any ideas please, thankyou

Hi, We're interviewing for 2 Early Years Support Workers to work part-time in our sessional creche. We have never appointed one from scratch before and I am struggling to find suitable questions for the panel to ask the candidates. Has anyone recently appointed and could share their questions. The interviews are next Friday (2 July) so I don't have loads of time and the people I know might help in Oxford all seem to be on leave (lucky them) TIA Sherry

Staff Issues

I have been doing my staff rotas for next year and it has been a bit more stressful than usual as we have a fairly low number of preschoolers for next year and so staff numbers in each session will have to be less. I basically deciced it by what people said to me, eg "I must have 16 hours because of benefits" or "I don't mind, whatever". They all took the hours and said they were fine, to my face. Then I start hearing all the moans secondhand. There has been a bit of a festival of bitching and crying apparently. Not one word of it to my face. So the question is, do I just ignore anything done behind my back? Do I take them all at face value when they all said it was f…

I am so excited that I have completed the process of applications, formal interview and informal interviews and been successful in getting a new full time job as a playworker..... However, I am nervous and want to hear from anyone who is a playworker in a children centre about their role and what it means to them.... I want to gain lots of information before I start my role beginning of June, although I have had many compliments from multi agency that I will love the job and it is a fantastic opportunity.... Anyone care to share Moonshine

Hey guys I have got an interview for a children's centre teacher job (working with birth to 5 years) I was wondering if any of you would know the type of interview questions they would ask. Will they be similar to teacher interviews or will they be more early years based? Thanks for your time. Oh it is a Sure Start position. Knoksk
