A couple of registered childminders have posted about being part of a Children come first childminding network, heres my first go at explaining! A Children come first childminding network is made up of a group of registered childminders (in my county there is a maximum of 20 minders to each network) who are managed by a Network Co-ordinator. Before becoming part of a Network every childminder is assessed by the Coordinator to ensure they are working to the quality standards of the NCMA and the National Standards. This includes a health and safety inspection and a general inspection looking at policies, working practices, training, attitudes to behaviour, discriminati…

Hi- apologies in advance for the long post. I would like to become a childminder. I currently live with my parents so I am looking at getting my own place to live and childmind from. I have enough money to pay 3/4 months rent before I start working. I did own/manage a pre-school for almost 5 years but resigned last month. I have a BA in early childhood studies as well as EYPS. I have paediatric first aid, safeguarding, SEND and food hygiene training which is all up to date. I also have a level 2 volunteer who helped at the pre-school who would like to continue helping me with a view of her being a paid assistant once numbers have built up. I am hoping to start after t…

Hi, I'm hoping someone can give me some advice. I have QTS but I qualified as a secondary school teacher but haven't taught in a state school for 15 years. I was invited to teach at and run an EFL school which I did for many years. Now I'm childminding and doing a level 3. I'd like to go back into teaching but don't know what to do next once I've finished my level 3. Would doing primary placements be enough? Should I do the EYTS course - I'm reluctant as I already have QTS and I will have level 3. I am hoping QTS + Level 3 will be equal to EYTS. The government line is that once you have QTS then that is enough for them - it is then up to the school. …
