Hey all, I've just started up and haven't got any children in the day at the moment other than some older ones in the school holidays and some after schoolers. Should I be doing observations on them seeing as they're not 'Full Time'? and they all attend school? Bit confused... Thank you for your help! xxx

Having a bit of a whinge here. Thought I had done some really good 'Fireworks' planning for my three 2-3 year olds. One of them quite anxious and I wanted to prepare him slowly for all the noise on Saturday. Turned on the Festive lights (they stay on until New Year now) and we all enjoyed that. We talked about the nights getting longer and it being darker outside so that's why we have lights. Lit some candles to expand on that. Then we looked at some fireworks demonstrations on Youtube - two of them loved it - one of them had a melt-down so we stopped that. Did some more candles and craft with glitter and glue on dark paper. Then I wanted to do some sparklers s…

Hey all, hope everyone is well. I finally got my certificate through about 3 weeks ago and immediately got some adverts up around the village I live in but I've only got a couple of after school children at the moment and beginning to panick that I'll never get any day children... What did you all do to advertise? Was it really slow to start with and then picked up? I'm worried I'm not going to get any interest... Not sure what I'll do then! eeekkk! Any advice is welcome, need all the help I can get, hehe! Thank you!

Ladies I need a little help if you dont mind and it got me thinking. I have worked with children for the last ten years but in a nursery, I then took two years off when my son was born and now I have started childminding. I have found getting my living room to look like a home as well as a setting very hard. We rent our property and we do not have a large amount of room. At the moment I have three small units which are slowly filling with toys but need to make the area more welcoming to the children. Any tips?

by Guest- 5 replies

Hi all, me again! You'll probably all get sick of me soon! What do you all do about parents that want to reserve a place for their child ages in advance? I've got a lady that wants to reserve 2 full days next September 2012 for what will be her 7 month old. The baby isn't due until February 2012. She is very very keen for her child to come here as she only works around the corner. At the moment I'm just starting out so have vacancies those 2 days but unsure of what to say to her. I would love to have her child but confused as it's a long way off and I might have no vacancies. Sorry, I'm rambling. Any advice from you all is welcome! Thank yo…

Hey all, how are we all doing today? Well, I'm just starting out as a child minder. Fingers crossed I should get my certificate through the post today and get started. I've put up a couple of adverts so just waiting for the phone to start ringing! eeekkk! I'm a bit nervous! First question: I'm so confused on numbers. I'm allocated to have 5 children because I have 1 of my own who is 13months. So, this means I can have 2 more under 4 and then 3 over 4?? Is that right?? and I might be working with an assistant on some days too. She has a 9 month old, so is it right that she can have 5 children too? Do the numbers differ because she's an as…
