Went to my third session of the ITC course and came away feeling like I just can't do this We were discussing risk assessments and making spaces safe for children and I just thought OMG my whole house is a total danger zone, where can I put things? how can I sort things out? I need more space! Things like in my kitchen we have recycling boxes on the floor, with bottles and paper and card in that my daughter doesn't touch but obviously is a risk that I need to take into account, and in the living room there are a few wires that need to be tucked away and apparently my tv needs to be fixed to the table or something. Oh and having a high up cupboard is not good enough …

I have a new mindie starting on Monday, in fact my first! I need to start buying some toys and she is 18mths old. I will be getting more once she starts so that I have toys which meet her interests but I would like to get some before. Are there any must have toys that you couldn't live with out? I already have a ton of puzzles and books. Adele x

Evening everyone, i had my first mindie confirmed today and she will be starting with me in two weeks. I have most of the paper work ready but I was wondering how you organise your paper work. I was thinking that I would include observations and individual planning in the learning journal and group planning in another is this correct? So folders wise I would have: eyfs information, policies and procedures group planning learning journals daily paper work risk assessments any thin else you can think of? I would really appreciate your help Adele. xx

Hey all, I've got my start up Ofsted inspection on Monday to decide whether I can start as a childminder! I'm terrified! The woman was lovely on the phone but I'm scared I won't be able to answer all her questions. I've got the 'Are you ready for your Ofsted inspection' and filled in my answers. Can you have that document with you to jog your memory or does it look bad having it there do you think? I'm rubbish when I'm put on the spot. Any advice any of you have would be most welcome. Sorry for the random post! Thanks in advance for your help xxx

I started my ITC last night and they went through the whole "If you are level 3 you get to join the childminding network and take funded children etc etc" BUT when someone asked what whether her qualifications were ok (NVQ2 in health and social care and a Diploma in early years) they weren't sure because she qualified 11 years ago. So I asked about mine (BTEC diploma in childhood studies (Nursery Nursing) was the title and qualification I was awarded) I was told because I qualified over 10 years ago (1998) that it may not be a level 3 anymore and I may have to do another one to bring me up to level 3 I was told I needed to check it against some sort of table but when I…

Last year I went to a childminding information evening but at that particular time I was not in the right frame of mind to pursue it any further due to a change in family life and with work commitments. However now my circumstances have changed dramatically and I have taken steps to go on the next introduction to childminding course, my husband and I are in discussion to convert our garage into a playroom (something we had discussed anyway) so that I have a work space. I am very experienced in the EYFS so that bit doesn't worry me and I worked as a nanny so I have experienced home based care (though I appreciate there is a difference in nannying and childminding) …

Hiya tis me again ! Well things have improved greatly re settling into my setting and that of the nursery too. Despite the initial upset we are down to a minute crying on leaving parents arms. Which is terrific. Lo has enjoyed getting to know my kids and plays quite happily. Ive asked at the nursery questions re keyworker; routine; topics and have been given a newsletter for the room he is in. Having looked at his file for the new room though there only seems to be one ob from yesterday ( and carrying on too from playing with lego trains at my house with my son) "Jenny my train is going to Sthport ". Despite having been in that room for several visits during the h…

Hi Everyone I was wondering if you could let me know how you involve parents in your settings . We have a parent rota and invite parents in. Generally they prepare snack, wash up, make tea and then spend time in the setting watching how their child plays etc. We also invite them to join the commitee. Lately we have found alot of parents are not signing up for the rota and those that do don't really want to do anything. We obviously want to work with parents, so any ideas would be great. thanking you in anticipation
