I am a Childminder and I am available 'Term Time Only'. As the Royal Wedding Holiday fell during school holidays, the school most of my minded children (and my own) go to will be having an extra holiday at the end of the school year. I plan to be available on that day. Before I go to all my families I want a clear and fair plan in my head. Should I charge regardless of their needs, or should I deduct the day's charge? Most of my families have school aged children and maybe some will want the children to spend the whole day with me, some will take a day off themselves, and some families who aren't with me on that day will want someone to cover for the school day. …

Hi every one I have been working with my assignment and lucky only have two more to do before the 6th. I am really stuck on one unit though. I wanted to take my time putting together my planning sheets to make sure they work best for me but I have an assignment which askes ' Plan an enjoyable and challenging learning enviroment in the home that includes using every day domestic routines and house hold items'. My thoughts were to write a weekly plan, daily and a play policy which show use of treasure baskets and children input with washing hand etc and wahing up in the water tray? Adele

Hi, I still havent got this clear in my head so was wondering what you all did. When taking photos of the children I try not to get any of the other children in them so I don't have pictures of people children going home to others parents homes. If I have had a situation like a group photoe like at our christmas party or an outing i ask all the parents permission before giving each of them a copy but sometimes there are lots of children involved. What do you all do? thanks Karin

A ten year old in my care has a new IPod with a camera on it. Smart chil, but I wonder about photos of the other children getting passed about. I have asked if she understands about not taking photos of the other children, and she has said she does, but...she is ten?? Has anyone else managed this issue? Did you confiscate? Allow it to be used but trust that it's used responsibly? Allow it in the setting but not to be used? Any other ideas? I must admit to being a bit anti computer games etc, and I hope this isn't a case of showing my bias. Thanks, Honey

Monday to Thursday myself and my husband cm for a family of 3. The oldest one is 7. Every now and again she does things that shows us that she isn't really happy in our setting. We have her and her younger sister before school. Their brother stays with us until lunch. Last week she got in a strop because I wouldn't let her pick out a picture to colour in for the next day. She said she wished it was Friday cos then she wouldn't be at our setting. (as it happened she was here as mum wanted a emergency cover that day) Today she looked around at the things on our walls ie alphabet poster, counting poster, colours etc. and said can do that that that that theres nothing fo…

Hi, I've been asked to find out about how transition works when a child is going from a child minder directly into reception, without any nursery or preschool time. Firstly, the practicalities of it, e.g. do you fill out a similar LEA transition booklet? how do you pass info onto reception teacher? And also the whole smooth transition thing, e.g. in our preschool we have the local reception class to visit and they do a little show for us and the children meet their new teacher, do you have anythimg similar that you do? Also we did a little booklet for the children to take on their school visits in the summer term, where they did pictures of their new classroom, …

hi, I am after some advice regarding childminding part time. I manage an after school club so work afternoons from 2pm. But am looking for some additional work and am thinking of doing childminding, mornings only, with a view to doing childminding full time eventually. Just wondering if anyone childminds part time and whether its harder to get children if you can only offer specific hours? Thanks Jo
