Childminder specific issues

hi, I work as a registered childminder as well as at a pre school. I am just filling in the dreaded tax return for self employment. I am never sure if there is anything specific to work on as regards expenses. I make deductions for wear and tear (10% of total income) and for council tax, water rates, heat & light etc. but it is all a bit haphazard. For general expenses I include new equipment, reg. fees, anything I've had to replace due to childminding. Does anyone make deductions for use of car? My local tax office couldnt help either. I would be interested to know what other people do. thank you Sandie

Hi eveyone, I have just completed my foundation degree in education and care and have been accepted to go on and do my ba (hons) in September. I am starting to worry a bit now that I am going to be in over my head and wondered if anyone who has done a similar thing has any words of encouragement. I am a childminder working on my own and was lucky to have great support from a couple of my fellow students over the last two years.

Nut Allergy

I have been advertising a childminding vacancy for a while. I got a call today from a mum with alittle boy similar age to my daughter, all sounds fine. He has quite a severe nut allergy - he got taken to hospital becuase she kissed him after eating a nut chocolate. I would like to work with this family but I would like to find out more about people who have experienced dealing with an allergy of this level before. We don't eat a huge amount of nuts (although we love our marzipan) but I would be loathe to become a nut-free setting because of having to censor everything that comes in, including if a friend alls round for cofee and I have to vet her biscuits when the …

Have a Child starting soon from a Hindu family so no beef - easy. Made an on the spot decision to ask child for a playdate tonight (he is my own son's classmate). Did plan to serve pork sausages (Waitrose free range). Having a panic that there may be beef somewhere in the recipe. Have looked on Waitrose website but don't seem to see anything obvious about appropriateness. Does anyone have experience in this area? Best to pop to shops to get veg sausages so not to look different from other children? Don't often serve sausages for the record. Honey

I am a registered Childminder and I know it is good practice and we all should register officially as a Food business but I have yet to do this and am a bit sceptical! Has anyone already done it and what was your experiences of the inspection etc?
