Several years ago I saw something on telly about a Scandinavian invention of a kind of harness to form a walking school bus or crocodile. It was sort of like a belt with a long tail and pairs of wrist straps or belts or just handles along the length. Maybe it had another belt at the end for a following adult. I've had a bit of a google and not found anything like it, but that doesn't mean it's not there. Any ideas? Many thanks Eagle Eyes. Fe

Hello all Feel a bit silly asking this question but hear goes, On are attendance regiesters do we need to get the parents to sign there children in and out every day or just sign it at the end of each week or month ??? only asking because my parents seem to get a bit annoyed when I ask them to sign it it's like it's a bother to them. Would be great for them if i did not need to bother them with getting signatures at all. I have looked in the eyfs pack but can't seem to find an answer in there would be greatfull for any feed back. Thanks Michelle

Hi I m a network childminder and was keen to join up when the Network was first set up ,but I m begining to question exactly what I m getting for it We ve got the "t shirt" !! and a fleece !! and ANOTHER file of paperwork and have regular visits from our network co ordinator (who is great and very efficient) I get to meet up with fellow network childminders which is nice ,but it can be difficult as this is a county network and we are well spread out, and often have to travel quite a distance to meet up .This is difficult as I dont drive so have to rely on others. but cant really think of much else !! Im not sure what I was expecting ,but certainly thought…

Well ladies - I think after much hard work handing out cards re vacancies - Ive had two in the space of two days !!. First parent came yesterday and to cut to the quick we WOWED them big style. Really pleased as its five half days. Mum is a down to earth scouser (hurrah!!) rather than the 'dont know where you-are-with-them" types that my village is full of bar the few. So I think Ive finally cracked it, and the other parent was one i met months ago and just wants some reprieve from it all for one afternoon a week till September. Latter is due around tomorrow to settle lo; former will be here on Sunday to finalise paperwork and start Monday (settling in ) So feeling r…

Well I know you will have missed me these ten days or so but I have been busy advertising and 'putting myself out there' so to speak - well handing out a few business cards here and there. This week was getting used to my free time and feeling slightly better because I KNOW for a fact that my previous parent hasnt found a CM locally( poor little mindee) from the dragons ( other older CMs that I dont particularly care for) mouth - they sent him on his way after hearing my news ! Anyway... yesterday had an enquiry out of the blue ( not from my cards or ads but from shock of shock the gov.site ) from a single mum whom initially wanted holiday/after school cover for he…

Dear All, I've always been a bit lenient about fighting sorts of games and there,s never been much more than foam sword fighting. But a new level has reared its ugly head. Subtle questioning has revealed that two boys (5 and 7 years old) have seen war video games and I don't think they are alone at school (nice Christian school that it is). This week one of the boys held a gun made from Duplo to his own head while chanting 'Bang, Bang Chicken's dead, Fifty bullets in his head.' I found this very challenging, especially as there were many smaller children in the setting. When I put a stop to the game I got 'Aww that's not fair. We want to play it here 'cos we're…

Helen Edwards has posted Oftsed inspection outcomes for Settings and the improvements required. Does Helen or anyone know of a monitoring process in place for us Childminders? - Have Ofsted released a common core/pattern of actions required for childminders within the South East for example? The list on the home page for settings is exhaustive - I have noted that Ofsted have at least outlined that settings need to improve their wider partnership with other providers, hopefully one of which will be childminders. Looking through other childminders recent inspections this too has come up on several occasions, yet i know childminders do approach settings and ask if they…
