Hi all I just wondered if you could help me at all as i am unfamiliar with the running and organisation of After School clubs. I have been asked to stand in as acting Manager for 3 months, but i don't feel that confident as my experience is mostly gained in the education side of things - not play...If anyone has any advice as to planning, play plans or any good activities, i would be really greatful :+)

I had previously started my early years degree with the OU when I was a nursery manager but had to put it on hold when I left my my job 2 years ago, I am now a registered childminder and received details today from my LEA about funding for childminders for further education enabling childminders to reach EYPS. My question is how many childminders have or are undertaking an early years degree, How have you found evidencing your practice as I remember that I had to have someone before to sign that it was my work etc as a childminder you work alone so who can do that for you? Would other childminders recommend doing the degree I currently have a Level 4 qualification. …

In ten years I have never got to the point of choosing to give notice to a parent. Children have always moved on to school etc on some long anticipated date and the contract has come to a natural end. However I have a child at the moment whose parents are very difficult to work with and, with all the other things going on in my life just now, I feel that I do not need the stress. I have tried to work out how I should word a letter giving them the four weeks notice written into the contract but can't seem to find something which says the right words without sounding officious or patronising. I don't want an even more difficult atmosphere for the notice period! Has …

Hi I've been a childminder for 10 years. i've just joined your forum because I'm looking for help with my SEF (It's the council's one, which is a simpler version of Ofsted's) I've got a childminding Development worker coming to visit me in May, and I have to complete the SEf and Rag (red, amber green) forms. I'm completely baffled by all this, and not at all sure I'm doing enough for the EYFS. A lot of people on here are saying you should keep paperwork to a minimum, so I might be ok with that, but I'm really struggling with these two forms!!

I was wondering if anyone is currently working as a community childminder or has worked previously as one and gave it up. I have just finished my first case. I found it very disheartening and I was very upset by how it was handled by social services (I do appreciate that they have a very hard job to do). I was wondering if anyone else had any experiences (good or bad!) they could share as I am seriously considering giving up. Thanks

I had my pre-reg yesterday and passed!!! Was so relieved, even after feeling confident I was as prepared as I could be. Now just the long wait for the certificate.

Ofsted Confusion!
by Guest- 8 replies

Just cross really and can't phone Ofsted today so venting on here!! I emailed Ofsted in the week to cancel my registration as a childminder. The fees were due, and I gave up half a term a go, having juggled preschool and afterschool minding for 1 term and a half, I knew I would not be minding again all the while I am at the preschool. So as I said, I, from my own email account, emailed Ofsted to ask how I go about handing in my registration. I did inform them that I am also obviously listed as working for the Preschool and I don't want that to be removed from that! (which I wouldn't put it past them to have done!) Two days ago, we had a card from the post o…

i AM SO PROUD TO SAY I ACHIEVED THE GRADE OF OUTSTANDING IN NOVEMBER 09. I WORKED HARD FOR IT AND MY INSPECTOR WAS LOVELY. HOWEVER I WORK CLOSELY WITH A FRIEND WHO PUTS JUST AS MUCH EFFORT INTO HER PRACTICE YET SHE ACHIEVED GOOD. I CANT HELP BUT THINK THAT SHE WOULD HAVE ACHIEVED OUTSTANDING IF SHE HAD THE SAME INSPECTOR. HOW CAN WE ALL FEEL VALUED WHEN THERE IS SO MUCH INCONSISTENCY.

Hi I have just received my not so lovely tax return. I was just wondering how many of you do your own accounts and how many pay an accountant. I have found keeping my monthly accounts straight forward but this nice form looks rather complicated have only skimmed through it but I do believe I only have to do the 3 line form not the full version they have sent. This is the first year so any hints and tips greatly appreciated. Tink69
