Hi everyone, can anyone offer any suggestions as to how I can promote equal opportunities within my childminding setting? I already use books with positive images and dolls and small world toys of different types. Any thoughts on the subject would be gratefully received.

Unsettled Child

I've been looking after the most lovely child for a year and a half (she's nearly 3) and she's always been very happy, cheeky and chatty and we've established a lovely and close relationship. Over the last few weeks however she has seemed really unsettled at odd times throughout the day and today, for the first time , she didn't want her mum to leave and cried all the way to playgroup saying she wanted her mum instead. She wouldn't say goodbye to me or have a cuddle and just wanted to go home. As this is so unusual I've chatted to mum to try to find out what the problem is but mum doesn't seem to know although she seems concerned. They have a lot going on at home and a 5 …

Hi all Just wondered if any of you could answer the following? Are you able to child mind but only before and after school? I currenty work 2 mornings per week at my village pre-school so do not want to do during the day. I have first aid, safeguarding, EYF training, been crb checked and half way through a diploma in pre-school practice (level 3). I have 2 children of my own, boy 5 yrs, girl 11 yrs and a few weeks ago (poential job that didnt come off) made enquiries about after school club ony to be told it was full on the days I needed!. I have also heard many say that whether they take a place at the school (very good school) depends if there are places in t…

While doing my latest Uni assignments I realised that it would be good practice to develop an IEP for my childminding setting. I have never used one before because I only found out about this sort of thing last term. I have looked at a few others and designed my own along with a review sheet. I would be really grateful for some feedback - especially if I have missed out something you think is important. Individual_Education_Plan_97.docIEP_Review_97.doc Please let me know what you think. Thanks in advance Alison

Hi, does anyone know at what time in a school year a child who is 4 can can be classed as this? I've been asked to take on another child who is 3 on in july but the child who is due to start full-time school in sept still needs care and im not sure if i will be able to have the 3 year old aswell. If not then it looks like i will have to lose work and then may not be able to fill the place.

Capital Grant Funding

Hi, Just interested to know if anyone has received a reply from the capital grant applications that they have made. I am still trying to work out my needs but here in herefordshire, I know from a meeting recently that child minders have put their applications in ready to be assessed. I am wanting to take the gravel away on my patio area and make it more child friendly and add sensory areas and add wheelchair access. What does everyone else think about it all. I have been child minding for 18 months and am finding it the best job in the world! I have never earned this much in my life and now they are offering us this opportunity, do i need to pinch myself?!

In the spirit of the EYFS/working togther I have just sent home a revised transition policy with a permission form attached - requesting permission to contact other settings a child attends/setting or school child will be transferring up to and a list of other agencies - health visitor/SLT/GP/Area senco etc to contact if and when the need arises. I've had very mixed feedback from parents -some very concerned at the thought of information sharing. Has anyone else done anything similar and what have the parents thought of it?

What The Ofsted Inspector Looks For 1 2
by Guest- 1 follower

I attended the Ofsted Outstanding Provider Conference yesterday and the Inspector I sat next to volunteered this information... The first thing she looks for when inspecting a childminder is a homely environment and a childminder who is genuinely interested in the children. Since EYFS was introduced childminders are doing TOO much paperwork! (Tell me about it!) She asks that we PLEASE stop photographing the childs every move and carry on doing what we do best - providing opportunities to learn through play in a home setting! SEF - this is NOT compulsory, NOT for the Inspector's benefit, and does NOT make the Inspector's job easier! Apparently she's seen som…
