Hello, Ofsted no longer allow assistants to be left unsupervised to care for children even with written parental permission (see below). If you agree that this should be changed please can you sign and forward the following link to a petition to have this decision reversed. http://petitions.number10.gov.uk/EYFS-regulations/ Thank you, Lucy Thank your for your email. Please be advised of the following information with regards to your query. For providers caring for the EYFS age range they must adhere to the specific legal requirements set out in the appendix 2 regarding ratios. In terms of levels of supervision the statutory guidance says …

I am after some advice as I have had a child with headlice and/or nits since Christmas. I inform the parents which is through our daily diary book and also tell the aupair that collects the child. It seems to disapear for a few days then back again. I have written in the book about how its best to check everyone in the family so to stp the cycle and even put in the book an information sheet which the school gave to my children as it was bug busting week last month. I always check my childrens hair once or twice a week and they have been clear, I have let the parents of the children know so they can check there hair (but I haven't seen any evidence they have got them).…

Food Hygiene Inspection Forms
by Guest- 8 replies

Yesterday I recieved a "Food Hygiene Information Survey and Self Inspection Form" I am just concerned about filling it in incorrectly and having to face a proper inspection so wondered how other people were answering some of the questions For example "what processing{of food}do you do?" Do I put preparing meals for childminded children? or do I have to list each separate process? Do written procedures mean risk assessments and policies regarding food hygiene? I include much of the food hygiene in my general health and safety policy but do you think I should have a separate food hygiene policy???? Any advice/opinions much appreciated! Thanks, Tracey

Hi I'm Carla and I'm new to thi forum! Just wondered if anyone can help. Next week I am due to be visited by an OFSTED inspector in order to become a registered childminder. Was just wondering what to expect? What will he/she ask me? Will they want to see my policies and do I have to show examples of planning? I did the pre registration childmiding course three years ago and the new EYFS hadn't started then. How much detail do you think they will go into? Thanks in advance Carla

Hi to everyone, i'm new on here so still finding my way round all this site. I'm another very confused childminder, having read through some of topics etc. I'm a bit miffed with exactley how these learning journeys are meant to be, are they just books with endless yellow post-it notes, amongst pictures of children? Can anyone show me some examples of how thes should be set out? Any help would be great as im struggling to get my head round all these like loads of others here. Look forward to hearing from someone soon, thanks.

Risk Assessments

Hello all with regards to risk assessments does anyone have a proforma they are willing to share?? I've looked at various websites via google and have seen some that are either tick boxes or descriptive..I really am at a loss which is the better way in doing this for ofsted. As outings are numerous within my setting, I understand you only have to do one per outing and reflect back to it if any risk become visable....is this correct....

Risk Assessments
by Guest- 8 replies

Hi just wanted to see how often people carry these out. I have been doing a tick list risk assessment covering my home and garden on things such as furniture being in good order, paving safe, outside toys ok, stair gates in place etc once a month. A fire drill once a month and smoke alarm tests weekly. However talking to another childminder they only log all this twice a year as we obviously visually check this all the time. It is alot of paperwork so i wondered if i am doing far more than most people.

As we all have to, we have had a procedure in place and practise it with the chldren (though not as often as we probably should) Last year our numbers grew and we started to ask the children to remove their shoes when they came in - partly to save our carpet and partly to lessen trodden on finger type accidents... DH built a fab box with attached frame with coat hooks and it's all really civilised. UNTIL I was updating our risk assessments etc and realised we were due another drill. Now my problem is what should I do about their shoes?? Obviously I can't start a drill then wait while potentially 12 children try to all get their shoes on... We keep our buggies up outside…

Car Seats
by Guest- 10 replies

Hello, more queries I'm afraid I've a bit of a car seat dilemma. For 2 days a week I look after a 1yr old (premature so only just about to grow out of a baby seat, 2yr old and a 2 and a half year old (also very small for his age). The youngest will need to move upto a three point harness seat but I can't fit three in the back of my car. I've got an airbag in the front. It's a 7 seater car but I'm not sure if it's safe to have three point harness seats in the boot? Anybody had a similar situation or who I could phone for advice? I can fit 2 harness seats and a booster seat (with a back) in the middle of the car but none of them would be big enough weight wise to use the …
