**changes To Ratios**

In the revised EYFS released on Monday the changes to the Statutory Framework mean that childminders who care for (or have their own children) in reception class will have to count them as an under 5 until September 2009, unless they apply & receive a variation. I have confirmed with Ofsted that this is there intention and it not just a badly worded paragraph. EYFS Statutory Framework page 51: Each childminder may care for: "a maximum of six children under the age of eight; of these six children, a maximum of three may be young children, however where four- and five-year-old children only attend the childminding setting before and/or after a normal school day…

Help. I am a RCM and have a 7 year old child who I look after everyday before and afterschool. BUT unfortunately he does not want to do anything. All he wants to do is watch TV and thats it. I have tried everything. He is not a shy and retiring child by any means, in fact, he is a lot older than his years and his vocabulary is very extensive to the point where the other kids have no idea what he is talking about. When he speaks he is very to the point and often talks about death/dying/what would happen if? questions. He is a little overweight and has no exercise at home either (i know this for definate) so we try and get him to play out but all he says is "I know…

Ofsted Visit For Variation Request
by Guest- 3 replies
- 4.3k views
I have recently asked for an urgent variation request so that I can take on the care of a 3 year old girl before school every morning and after on two nights a week. This means that I will be one over my numbers for an under 5 for 1 hour in the morning and half an hour on the two nights after school. I wrote a four page letter explaining the full routine, risk assessment of the journey to school and a run down of all of the minded children. Ofsted called and are coming to see me, which has worried me a bit as other people I know have had their variation request agreed over the phone. Has anyone else on here had an Ofsted inspector come and see them in order to agree…

Help went on a EYFS course hoping to leave there feeling confident and clear on how i was going to go about my planning but left there none the wiser. I got home researched on the net and started pieceing bits together and thought i was heading down the right track but have just got back from a group meeting and i am now not so sure. Is anyone willing to share how they go about short term and long term planning. I was doing my long term planning around the 4 areas of the EYFS producing a A4 sheet for each main daily activity i do such as sleep time, role play, nappy time, meal times etc and how i covered the 4 areas. But someone said at the meeting they did not agree and …

My LEA want me to do a presentation regarding this very thing. It would be fantastic if I could receive info from childminders themselves rather than me specifying what I think YOU guys want. So what support do you lovely people need to help implement the EYFS. Looking forward to hearing from you. XXAngieXX

Inspections!

Hi All! I've recently joined and have found it really interesting reading previous posts. I thought I'd share my Ofsted experience. I had my Ofsted in November 2007 and wasn't looking forward to it! Several RCM's in Dudley had strange tales to tell - requests that they mark the register "in and out" ie when they take children to other settings, did they grow their own vegetables, were posters displayed? I, too, wanted my home to look like a home - if parents wanted posters displayed then surely they would look at a Nursery setting! I asked all my parents and they agreed - they even put their comments on a home environment in their written statements to the Inspector! …

I am registered as a childminder working with multiple assistants. My registration states that l can leave assistants in sole charge of the children with prior written consent from parents. l am wanting to go away for five weeks hoping to leave two of my assistants in charge. Now, having lots of headache with this. So much conflicting information. Rang Ofsted. In the first instance was told just to apply for a variation. Second instance was told to register both girls as registered childminders. They both are level 3 qualified doing the foundation degree at the moment and attended lots of training courses. One of them is the deputy and the other the supervisor. My job is …

I haven't put my fees up since 2004 and have realised that I am charging much less than anyone else in my area now! I know it doesn't count in the CM world but I have over 20 years experience in childcare and am level 5 and feel a bit put out that new mums with no experience are getting more than me! Well at least I'm honest!! I know our preschool wages increase by 2.5% each year but it harldy seems worth it on the amount I charge in fees! Just wondered how others did it....
