I have been thinking that I should be doing more to keep the little ones active on rainy days - I currently do songs with actions and clean the outside toys up and bring them inside Does anyone have any ideas? I thought I might make a game with laminated cards which children can choose then try to do eg walk like a duck with a pic of a duck; jump like a star with a pic of a star etc. I've got 1 age 2 and 1 age 3 at the moment........ Thanks in advance! Sarah x

Foundation Stage Training

I am an accredited registered childminder living (and working) in Devon and find it almost impossible to access FSAT led foundation stage training courses, which as an accredited c/m I am obliged to do; four days worth of them. I can of course read books and other periodicals, watch televison programmes and access information from the internet (e-learning) with a foundation bias to fulfil my training obligation, but I feel that this information is not as good for c/m, as tutor led courses, as most of the above forms of information are based on group-care rather than home-based care. For example, the, 'working with a group of six children...' I have no problems accessin…

Hi all! I have posted this here rather than the BTTM forum as I need specific help with this... I have been asked to do some BTTM training with some childminders and want to focus on appropriate activities, planning, observations and record keeping (mainly for Ofsted purposes) I have loads of examples for nurseries but want specific childminder ideas/input. I'm sure that the childminders are already doing a lot of good quality practice with this age group, but they think that they are either not keeping enough information or keeping far too much (same as Day Nurseries, I guess?) Have any of you got examples or ideas of planning/observations that you do (and…

Hello I was wondering if there were any Childminders out there who plan using the stepping stones? If so what are your experiences the good, bad and the ugly?! I am delivering a professional development training course on ELGs for CMs. Many thanks Jenny

Ofsted Inspection

We were supposed to have an inspection a few weeks back but our mindies were away so she said she would only be able to give satisfactory. So she is coming 'sometime' this week and I wish we hadn't had so much warning as now she'll be expecting more!! We're not tidy and I don't have a problem with that. We are clean and safe and that's all that matters. Our current families say part of the reason they chose us was because we are laid back and they don't feel we will constantly be tidying up round the kids - and we're not!! Sorry rambling, i just had a lump of wood dropped on my head... another story please think of us this week.....

Parent and toddler groups/Childminding Support groups - Great places to take children along to socialise with other children of a similar age, meet children they may one day meet at school. Often an opportunity to join in a group activity - caft, singing, drink time etc. The Shops Visit small shops to but one or two items to use in an activity - choose fruit from a farm shop to make a fruit salad, or point out how the till is used/computer at the bank and show technology in the real world. The Park Lot of space to run around, practice skills of balancing, climbing, jumping, swining, discovers the child's physical capabilities.... Public transport Go on…

Childminding - Is It For Me?

Hi there I work in a pre-school as a playleader and love working with children but I am getting increasingly frustrated with working under a committee - I want to be my own boss and make ALL the decisions about MY provision. But I'm a bit worried that I might not appreciate what is involved. How many hours do you work? What kind of support do you get? Would I need to drastically change my home and would it be good enough!!!? Also if you have children has it affected them?
