Responding to the Consultation on how Ofsted regulate early years prov

http://discuss.bis.g...regulators/#chi Thanks to Sarah at www.knutsfordchildminding.co.uk for these tips on completing the consultation. It is open to childminders, nurseries and pre-schools - anyone who cares for early years children. The Government wants to know how well Ofsted are doing at regulating childminders. They are not interested in how well the current legislation (EYFS, Childcare Register etc) works - the focus is on how well Ofsted enforcement (registration visits, inspections, dealing with complaints, producing informative factsheets etc) and Local Authority support is working. Why has this review been set up? The review is linked closely to t…

Hi Everyone, I am a new Childminder and am enjoying it very much, but am not sure what to do about fussy eaters. I have three of them! One two year old will wolf down a bowl of pasta with pesto and extra cheese one week, and refuse to look at it a few weeks later. A seven year old will only eat pizza! Another little one will sit in the high chair and refuse to put any food in his mouth until I give him Weetabix! I know what I would do with my own children, but am at a loss here. Should I offer three or four meals? Should I insist they eat some? Where can I find ideas for nutritious and interesting childrens meals? What kind of meals are others providing?

Morning all, gosh feel like Ive been in another world recently. Last week I recieved a letter from ofsted with the changes to responisibilites regarding registration certificate and ratios. included was a form for me to sign to determine whether i would be appealing against the decision they have made to put the onus on us re the ratios etc. Can anyone bring me up to speed or direct me on this ? I feel its just another way for them to check we know or stuff at inspection but am i missing the bigger implications ? thanks in advance. I did fiind a post way back in June that mentioned the specific changes to responsibilities but nothing since then.

Hello, last night I had an email from my estate agent. We live in a rented property and it appears that a few neighbours have complained to the landlord about cars arriving between 7.30 and 8am. While I have permission to childmind from the property the complaints have led the landlord to read the deeds to the property, which state a business must not be ran from the house. This has led to her saying that I either stop childminding and remain in the house or we have to move out. I really don't want to stop childminding as I have built a successful business over the last year and couldn't bear to let the families down and I love the house we live in. My question is what sh…

OVERNIGHT CARE

Question?!!!!!??? I have just received my notice of intention to remove all variations from my registration certificate, I knew this was coming, now the question is this, I know I can make my 'own variations' as long as I stay within the standards, so any I already have will still stand so to speak, my husband is my assistant for emergency cover with parental permission which I have, so thats fine, BUT what about the OVERNIGHT CARE variation I have/had for 2 children? The only refference to overnight care i can find is that you must be able to hear the child, a monitor is acceptable. So does this mean that all childminders can now provide overnight care? as long as t…

Indelicate I know, but how do other settings deal with loo brushes? My previous advisor was fine with them in the loo, but new one isn't (and rightly so) I just can't find the right option. I hate having to keep them in different rooms and risk dripping yuk through the house. Does anyone have, or know of, a child safe loo brush? Do you use disposable ones? Oh the joy of it all!! Honey
