Unqualified Childcare Workers

Hi there, hope everyone is well and had a lovely spring break. I'm currently doing my level 3 and loving it. I find it so useful, learning about everything and then applying it to my practice. I work in a fairly small setting where the majority of our staff are unqualified, but are currently undertaking some form of formal training, whether NVQ or DPP. But we also have a few staff members who have told us very clearly they simply have no intention of doing any formal training what so ever. At first it was a "I'm not really able to fit it all in around home-life etc" kind of thing, but now it's a "I don't want to do any, I feel confident enough without it". I thought…

Hi, I'm Katieo and new so I hope I'm doing this right (I like these smiley things) I'm currently studying and am in the middle of a self-directed assignment on the Key Person Role. I'm interested to know what people's thoughts are; is this role new in your setting? Do you think its working well - perhaps you don't think its a good idea. I just want to get a feel for how people are managing it and what issues may be arising. Hope you can help. Thanks Katieo

Desperately need help. I would like to put a system in place where peer on peer observation is encouraged and discussed as a FS Unit. I have one particular member of staff who has no enthusiasm, passion or real belief in the new system. I need her to improve and embrace this system. WE ARE NOT FORMAL TEACHING ANYMORE! Please tell me someone has some suggestions.

Hi everyone, Hope you’re all having a lovely Easter break. I’ve just put some books on Play.com that you might be interested in purchasing. They were all really useful when I was doing my PGCE (Primary) course and I’ve also included 3 books (at the end) that are specifically for the Foundation Stage too which help with planning lessons. I’m selling under the name Buttercup101 and they're currently all being sold at the lowest price on Play.com Here are the links, hope you find it useful: The Teaching of Science in Primary Schools http://www.play.com/Product.aspx?title=441...ools&ptsl=1 Mathematics in the Primary School http://www.play.com/Product.aspx?…

Hi all - I've been asked to let you know about the schedule of courses at the Institute of Education over the next few months. The IoE is based in London, as are all the courses, so they're only relevant if you can make it to Londinium! Here are the details (for information on each one, click on the links to be taken to the relevant IoE page):

A friend of mine has done an exam for the CACHE CCE course. One of the questions asked was: What helps stop germs from spreading? Choices where: ventaltion, putting away toys cleaning sand. My friend put ventaltion but is now confused, I think she has had time to think about it. I said ventaltion. Thanks. Beth

First of all I hope I'm posting this in the correct place - I'm still trying to find my feet and am finding new sections on this forum daily (took me a while before I found the resource library which I think is brilliant). I'm just slightly miffed that it's taken me so long to stumble across FSF !!! I'm currently undertaking the Cache Diploma in Home-based Childcare and was wondering if any other members have completed it, are currently doing it or thinking about embarking on the course ? I'm not sure how many Registered Childminders or Nannies use this forum....
