Foundation Stage And Ks1

Ok, so after spending 2 years in KS2 (granted in a special school so my kids were working at a 2 years and under level) I'm going back down to my favourite age groups in September, with a mixed R/Y1 class. I'll have 2 YRs and 5 Y1s, all very different with lots of different needs from the most profoundly disabled to one who may end up moving from our school if he continues to develop at the rate he's at now. So what do I need to gen up on over the holidays with me being out of the FS for 2 years! What's changed?!

Qualifications

I think that somewhere there is a web site in which you can search for your qualificiation and it will tell you, at what level you can work? Does that ring any bells with any body? I thought that it was the QCA/framework website, but I do not seem to be having any joy with that. My query arose because my preschool manager was saying that she did not think you could lead full day care on a level 3 qualification, but it was adequate to run a pre school (sessional care). I just wanted to try and clarify this. Thanks.

A bit of background... I'm doing my microteach this week. Its a half hour session which I'm taking from one of my 2 hour session plans. The bit I'm doing reflects on what the group would have discussed beforehand but obviously because we wont have discussed it I need your help with words people might associate with creativitiy. The sessions are planned for unqualified staff and helpers, so I'm imagining the responses wont be in very educational speak or have a great deal of understanding of what we mean by creativity (sterotypical I know, but this is for demonstration purposes only) I've got a list of words that define creativity but I need words that might be given by…

Hi I need your advice about the nvq 4 in childcare and education. My supervisor seems to be lacking in knowledge in certain areas and i felt this course would be good for her. After weeks of encouraging her to do the course. She spoke to a college assessor who has said she doesn't think the course is worth doing and you may as well do a degree, now she strugggled doing her 3 so i don't think she will cope with a degree. I thought this would be a good step forwards for her. Just wondered what your thoughts are, whether you are doing the course and do you think its worth while. and has anybody else heard this point of viw.

Hello, My school is becoming a children's centre in 2008 and a private day care centre will be run from there. As a school we are thinking about setting up a limited company and bidding for the franchise. Has anyone been through this experience? How difficult will it be? Is there any where I can research this further? Many thanks Lucyd

Moving To Y1/2

My head is moving me to year 1/2 next year- to raise standards in KS 1. This says to me that the good practice established in Foundation has to continue- MY question is how do I make this work for the Year 2's? I can imagine a form of freeflow with role-play and practical games etc for year 1- but as soon as I look at the Year 2 onjectives this vision disappears. There will be 28 children and the room is not very big but it does have access to a small patio that I hope to develop. I am also worried about sticking to a tabletable. I have never do sats before and I don't want to let these children down. If anyone has any ideas please let me know

Hi , Can someone give me advice please, i was unsure about which course to do, it was between a management course or the foundation degree in early years. After much deliberation, i have decided to do the foundation degree, having just read a few old messages about funding from the transformation fund, can someone explain to me, do i apply for the funding myself or do the owners of the nursery i am SNO in. On Friday i told my manager i want to do the foundation degree and she said she will let the owners know and they will let me know if they will pay towards it from the transformation fund. The course is due to start in September, the application form is being sent t…

I am Montessori trained. I have spent the last 6 years as a reception teacher in a non Montessori school and prior to that I worked in nurseries, some of which had a Montessori ethos and some didn't. Every Ofsted/inspection I've been through I have received high praise for my practice. I am well respected amongst parents and staff and achieve very good results. When my EYP advisors come and visit they speak highly of my work and the joy in my class. So why, as I move into management, are the advisers and EYPD in my area having "problems" with my qualifications? At the moment they are trying to work out what "level" they think I am, in order for me to start "re…

Hi All Can you help me with answering a couple of questions. Do you think the children's Centres are reaching the right people? Do you know of any early years setting that has been affected by the opening of a Children's Centre? I would like to use the findings in my course work if that is alright by everyone. Thanks

I have been looking into doing makaton training for around 12 months, I already have BSL stage 1 but I have never had to use it. I know some friends who use Makaton with mainstream children in singing time plus carpet time. I have seen this in practice and it looks good. I have found a foundation course for professionals at www.makaton.org in Dewsbury 11/12 June 07. I am unsure of what to do. This is something that interests me having seen it in practice plus a few of the day nurseries around the area have started to do baby sign but I think this is much better for the 0-5+ age group. TIA Beth
