Best Practice Network
by Guest Wolfie- 3 replies

I'm haivng a look round at the moment to see which training providers are offering the EYPS training in my area and have come across an organisation called Best Practice Network - does anyone know anything about them, has anyone done any training or qualifications with them in the past? They do the training in locations very convenient for me but I want to make sure that I've chosen the right provider!

A number of our staff need their first aid renewing. The school that we are forming a partnership Foundation Stage Unit with are in the same situation. We thought it would be good to combine the training, but the school usually have St. Johns ambulance give a first aid for schools training on an INSET day, which they are unsure if it is alright for the pre-school staff, as it is not the Early Years First aid course, but a school one. It seems a bit mad to me though as we are setting up a FSU so both sets of staff will be looking after the same children. What do school nurseries do, or other FSUs do?

Hi Am currently looking at observations in TMA 2. Have come across something my Rutter M (1995) and want to read more. It's about knowing when to help children and when to leave them to get on with an activity is an essential skill of the early years professional ...... Thanks

Hi Would be grateful if you could recommend good books for studying. Am currently doing the Foundation Degree but not just specifically for that. Particularly books about the different theorists, child developement/behaviour etc. Someone has asked this question previously but I cannot find it doing a forum search. Thanks Debbie

Communicating Matters Training Course 1 2

Has anyone come across this course yet? The training materials have been developed by the DFES in an effort to develop practitioner's skills at developing young children's speech and language skills and it's currently being rolled out to all authorities, to be delivered by two trainers working together, one with a speech therapy backgorund and one with an early years background. I ask because we've just finished delivering the first of three modules to some practitioners in our area and it went REALLY well - we had a ball and all learnt so much from the materials and from each other. There's quite a big time commitment involved, the training is teo full days for eac…

Another Question . .
by Guest- 5 replies

Hi everyone Just got another question - think I'm having a bit of a senior moment, as I feel there is a simple answer . . . but can't find it at the moment . . . as some of you know I'm wondering where to go qualification wise? NNEB in 1979 and have worked in Childcare and Education ever since - thinking of doing something purely for 'self' satisfaction - rather than be in a position later of "I wish I'd done that" at a later stage in my life. Anyway less of the waffle and down to the question . . When you enrol via OU do you have to commit to which course straight away? Can't make my mind up whether to consider Cert. in Early years or FD, I know the E123 an…

Ma Anybody?

I've been wondering (again) about whether to go for an MA before the marbles roll away altogether! I'd have to take a distance learning approach and would be glad to hear from anyone who has done/is doing this? The course I'm most interested in is the MA in Early Childhood Studies at Sheffield Uni. It's VERY expensive so I'm looking to convince myself that I can't possibly do without it! What does anyone think? Ooops! My topic title was supposed to be "MA" not a general request to all Mums out there! Perhaps it's too late already
