Well you've all got me thinking what to do? Have been searching the OU website and looking at Foundation Degrees workload, course info etc, and came across the APEL route. Has anyone done this? If so what was it like? The OU web site says there is no tutor support for the course so how do you know if you are doing the right thing or not? Oh by the way - hubby says 'why not?' when I asked him what he thought I should do re; future study, middle daughter was a bit more down to earth - ".....and when are you going to fit that in? you're always saying you haven't got time......" . . . .Youngest daughter is contemplating how much less of the Sims she will have if …

Speech And Language Training

Hi I have recently started a new job working as a speech and language therapist for Early Years. As my post is predominantly to deliver training to Early Years settings, I would really value any ideas from professionals working with children in the Early Years as to what kind of speech and language training you would think would be useful. Thanks very much, it will really help me to structure my training around the settings to what they actually want and need!

Hi, Looks like I may be joining this topic board in February. We received our letter from our EYDCP about the transformation fund and I forgot to send it. I sent it about two months late thinking nothing of it because I would miss out now and this morning I received confirmation that they are funding most of it (I have only got £60) to pay. So i rang the OU thinking it would now be too late for Feb anyway and she said I was lucky as today was the last day for applications!!! I feel a bit overwhelmed with it all now I wasn't expecting to be studying next year. When I did my level 3 I found out i was pregnant about a week after I started. what with that and the fa…

Hi, I have been accepted to begin the BA (hons) Early Years Education (part time) in September. I am a mature student with 2 children and work hard (as we all do) at a preschool. The Degree will take me 4 years to complete, cost a fortune and I will also have to put my 2 young children in after school club while im at uni. I have just found out that the local college will be running the newly revised BTEC HNC in Advanced Practice in work with Children and Families (Education) (Level 5). This will take 2 years, one evening a week and cost less - you can also top up to degree (apparently?) with just one year degree graft. What do you think - I really thi…

I have just been on a one day course with Sally Featherstone called Brainworks. All about how children think and learn. Differences between boys and girls, left brain, right brain, learning styles etc. It was brilliant. She is such a good communicator and very inspiring. If you get the chance to attend one of her courses, then go! I think a lot of what we did is in the book The Thinking Child. Carolyn
