Hi all, Hope you are all well and coping with the recent lockdown. I'm in a school nursery 3-4yos. Today, for the first time in many years we had a hair cutting incident - not drastic, thank goodness but, of course, the child of the trickiest parent in the class!!! I feel a bit stupid asking this, but does everyone else have scissors available in their workshop area for children to access without always having direct supervision from an adult - e.g. adult in room but not necessarily next to scissors at all times? Of course, we've had the usual questions - why weren't they supervised? Why have they got scissors? etc - starts me seconding something we'v…

Hi All Wondered if any of you have advice for a child in preschool who may be colour blind. He is able to match bright primary colours but not consistent at naming them. There is history within the family of colour blindness. I think he may be too young to be tested but what activities would you provide and how would you adapt activities to support? All ideas welcome.

Hi, I am new to the forum and am researching Tapestry for my setting. We currently still use workbooks, pictures etc. and am looking to move to an online for of observation. It would be really helpful to hear from you of your experiences of using Tapestry and any advantages/disadvantages of use that you have encountered. I would be really grateful for your responses and thank you for your time. JoB

TIA.

Hi, I was looking for some advice about planning and how to present planning. Over the years the setting I was working in have had many types of planning, introducing new types of planning like In The Moment, but never fully committing to any - the result has been a really messy and over complicated mount of paper work. I recently took over the setting and implemented Tapestry (I wanted this resource for years) and made a few changes to the planning, mostly towards more child orientated as opposed to a revolving factory floor belt of activities and gave staff more control and freedom to plan for their children and small groups. Our long term and medium term plan…

Hi I'm just wondering if any settings still use desk top computers. We have one in our setting which is getting old, the children hardly use it has it does not have a touch screen and they struggle with using a mouse. Is it time to let old desk top computers die or do people think they still have a place in Early Years Settings?

Hi Does anyone have any photos of models the children have made using the large hollow blocks. I'm planning on creating a book of ideas to give our, mainly boys, a starting point on how to use the blocks in their play. Thanks if anyone can help, if not i'll stay and play after work and get building.
