A-Z Of Learning... Help!
by Guest- 6 replies

For some reason I'm still awake and I've found myself trying to complete this A-Z of learning for my nursery classes graduation in July. I'm planning on going through the alphabet and sharing things the children have learnt, memories or key points of the year etc. I'm now stuck though and need any help I can get and also just opinions on what I have so far. Some are specific points to my class so they do make sense, lol. Letters with stars next to them are the points the children will sing or share things with their parents. A is for our Ascension assembly B is for Bear Hunt (Acting out the Bear Hunt story) ** C is for counting D is for the Dinner ladies who look a…

Hi Everyone! I am struggling with thinking of any ideas for an Olympic themed observation. It is CLL focussed and I shall probably go for speaking and listening. I just can't think of anything good! The only thing that I am thinking that is of any use that week is that I have a book about Peppa Pig's Sports Day. If anyone has any good ideas then please let me know! xx

Managing Observations

Hi everyone, I work in a large nursery within a school and are getting even bigger next year! We will have 52 in the morning and 52 in the afternoon! Dues to this, we are looking at organising our observations on an observation wall somehow, so we can see who has observations, who doesn't and target certain children for areas of learning. Has anyone got any photographs of how they do this? Have done this before in a school which was a one form entry school, but with so many children, obviously space is an issue. We also want to try to encourage parents to add to the profiles too. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Nursery Induction
by Guest- 1 reply

Been reading for a while but this is my first post and just looking for some advice! I'm an NQT in nursery, and will still be classed as an NQT come September for the first term. I started a month into the school year so I missed the 'starting school' part for the current nursery children. So I am wondering what to expect from the first day, week etc. How should I deal with parents initially? The children will all be starting at the same time; 20 full time and 4 part time (all mornings). I am planning on sending a booklet home from the induction afternoon showing my teaching assistant and I, as well as areas of the classroom and school to prepare the children. Als…

Has anyone started to plan for changing their planning format and learning journeys? Our current learning journeys are based on the Southampton 'Learning stories', and refer to the sections of the old eyfs, so that needs to be changed. I was wondering how other people were thinking of do their planning ans looking for some inspiration really!

Hi all, we recently held our jubilee party in our new building and it was the first time that some of the parents had spent any time in our outdoor area. It was great to hear so many positive comments about what a great space it was as we have worked hard on this area during the last five months. I did however hear a couple of parents comment that they can see why their children come home dirty and dusty!!! This is because our hill and tunnel area needs re-turfing and is down to bare soil/dust, we are not going to do this until the summer holidays as the children would have to stay off it. Anyway I have got lots of photos of all the children and activities that we do o…

When do you start to write your reports for children who are leaving to go to school, either nursery or reception? It's always a frantic rush at the very end of term for us, this year I want to be less stressed, but it seems a bit early yet?!

Hi All, Just about to start a new theme on the "Seaside". So far we have thought about, setting up a beach role-play and an ice-cream shop. Tasting different flavoured ice-cream, making sand cabs, ice cream vans and writing about what we would pack in a suitcase. Does anyone have any exciting activities they could suggest? I work in a Nursery school. Thanks
