Hi, does anyone have a PDF copy of the Scottish Development statements they could send me, please? I'm not sure if they differ much from the English ones, but I'd really like to see them. My granddaughter is starting nursery next week and I'd like to look at their assessment criteria. Many thanks in advance.

Hi - Pretty new to this so any advice welcome before registration inspection. We run a setting for 2,3 and 4 year olds - many therefore funded for 15 hrs over 38 weeks but we are 48 week setting that opens 07.00 - 18.30. During holiday times when there is no funding on offer, but parents pay to attend, are we obliged to provide the same experiences for children as we do in term time ? Naturally we follow EYFS guidelines but we don't intend to provide the activities in holiday periods that we do in term times. We have big outdoor facilities and all indoor resources are the same during holiday periods and can be used however we have a term time only early years teacher a…

I am currently a little confused. So usually we all print out our next steps per term. This time it seems to be showing no next steps for the new term, I saw another post saying to use the next steps from the end of the previous term which makes sense, but then we are losing the observations from the last few weeks? Why don't the observations carry over from each term?

Hi Everyone, I would really welcome any ideas or suggestions to help me improve my setting. I am a childminder who has recently had their first inspection. The inspector identified two areas for improvement one of which was: The childminder has not fully extended opportunities for children to share their views and contribute to identifying areas for improvement at the setting. All my play is based on the children's interests and although some are too young to verbalise their ideas I plan learning around their interests and also buy new resources to reflect this. From observing their play I am able to identify areas that need improving or adding to. …

Hi Folks, Can anyone share with me their views on an effective time to track children's progress? We have followed advise from our EYIO in the past and tracked children, three times throughout the year - in Sept, March and July ( we complete a base line check for new starters in Sept, or whenever they start, so all children have a next step target ASAP). Thank you very much in advance Lucy

HI all, I am currently looking at changing planning as we all probably are! Trying to get a balance between in the moment planning and a curriculum that includes letters and sounds and all the other important things throughout the year. How and when do you plan? I really like "in the moment planning" but not convinced i should immerse in this completely, and feel that maybe a balance is a good way to go, considering that the outcomes in reception have gone up another notch. I have also really worked on our environment and have created defined zones in the setting to encourage creativity and critical thinking but as we know this alone will not create effect…
