Planning For Student

Can anyone advise? Does Ofsted expect to see student or volunteer helper's time planned for within the daily session? I have a daily staff timetable (three staff); this is colour-coded so that each day a member of staff is allocated to oversee: outdoor play indoor play and snack observe key children However, I do not 'include' my student on the timetable (nor is she included in the staff/child ratio) . My reasoning here is that I like to have someone who can 'float' - also, she is not in every day and there are times when she cannot get in for one reason or another. Any thoughts or advice would be much appreciated!

Next Steps

I hope you can help me because I am getting in a flap and I'm not sure whether it is justified! We have been undergoing monitoring visits from our EYAT specifically regarding planning. You may remember if you read my previous thread that I was struggling to work out a system which addressed next steps fairly. We have been advised to make sure all our children have one next step each week. This sounds ok and I was actually quite excited about it until the realisation hit me that that is NS for 60 children every week. I am struggling tonight with the planning, making sure I have enough activities to cater for all these children (who all do different days/sessions). …

Hi Everyone We're having a bit of a planning overhaul and I would like to find out more about the PLOD approach. I can find short articles and some blank planning sheets, but nothing that really explains the whole system in detail. Does anyone know where I can find some more indepth info or even a book on this way of planning? Thanks for your help Beehive

We're Going On A Bear Hunt

Hi everyone! I have my first obs from our Head on Tuesday for CLL. I am an NQT in a nursery class and I know that the Head is very on learning objectives and fulfilling them. I am doing We're Going on a Bear Hunt and was thinking of re-reading the story and then creating a giant story-map together with the class. I am torn between making the objective about what happens next or what noise can you hear at each section. I would love to show him our children in talk partners as they are getting better at this and am conscious of not dominating and leading the short lesson. Any ideas anyone? I am following the session by free-flow with my TA doing a musical instrument fo…

Hi all I am working in a new playgroup and really not sure of the answer to this question. We have been advised to link our planning to the EYFS development areas and we have used the development range 30 to 50 months in all areas I am not sure this is right or should we have put the learning goals as a guide as the children will be at different development ranges ??? Thanks for any advice

Help me please someone! I'm very new to this, just started up as a childminder and very confused when it comes to observations, learning journals and documention... What am I observing? (god I sound stupid!) How do I record it? What documentation is Ofsted looking for? Any advice welcome and sorry for this post! It's all so overwhelming what with all the paperwork and trying to set up and knowing what Ofsted want to see when they come look round. Thank you in advance xxx

Too Many Key Children?

I work in a committee run preschool, we have over 60 children on the books, some doing 2 or 3 or full time. With only 4 key persons, this means we have a minimum of 16 key children each. We are all finding this overwhelming. Its not only the observations, there is the learning journeys to update, photo observations, unique stories three times a year, transitition grids, then of course there is the individual planning. I am finding that half term holidays are taken up with updating books, a couple of nights a week to keep on top of it. Just wondered how other people cope, we do not get paid time within work time to do any work, it is all in our own time. Is 16 too much, I …

not sure how to handle this one..... we have a little boy at my setting -just turned 4. over the past few weeks he has been putting his hands down his pants, started off with just the front, now its the back too. it was initially only every now and again. it has become more frequent -as soon as you remind him to remove his hand, it goes back again ! now he has also started to expose himself -i think it pops out as he removes his had iyswim ? we have gently asked him to remove his hand, we have had a chat about bodies and how some things are private. im worried that the other children will notice and either make a big deal out of it (we are trying to be low key) or go…
