Was wondering if anyone has any good suggestions for a progress tracker/report for early years. Am trying to move away from tick sheets and need something that allows space for comments?

Assessment For Psed

I want to assess the children on PSED - Sense of Community. I intend to link this to Bonfire Night. The children made 'firework' pictures last week. Now, after experiencing Bonfire Night, I would like to add their own comments (in a speech bubble) to their pictures. So, I have no problem with 22-36m Show a strong sense of self as a member of different communities, such as their family or setting. or 40-60+m - Enjoy joining in with family customs and routines. BUT, I am struggling with 30-50m - Make connections between different parts of their life experience. I usually assess at 30-50m and use other statements to differentiate (where possible). Does anyon…

Hi, Just wondering if others find the aspect: 'Being Creative - Responding to experiences, expressing and communicating ideas' difficult to judge which age and stage children are in, especially the 22-23month age and stage? I find the LLN bit not very helpful as when I read it I can think of times when my 14 month old has responded in the way it suggests and I don't think he's particularly advanced!! What sort of things do you look for? I think the next 2 stages are much easier to know what I'm looking for. Thanks, Green Hippo x

Updating Eyfs Staff Training
by Guest- 2 replies

Hi, I have been asked to conduct a short staff training session reviewing the EYFS and what it means to them. The training session has arisen due to some observations and planning not linking to the development matters appropriately. We are concerned that staff are not really thinking about the statements and their meaning and are just slotting children in to tick another one off. In order to conduct a successful training session, I would appreciate some advice on how best to approach this without sounding like I am pointing the finger at anyone in particular. We have recently taken on new staff which I want to make sure are using the EYFS in the interests of the chi…

Hello! I'm the nursery teacher of a church school in Wales. We go up to 40 children a.m., 40 p.m. in January and the staffing ratio is 1:10. We don't have key workers. All staff are involved in observations but I write all reports and report to all 80 children's parents. Are we mad? Please tell me about key workers - pros and cons. Do key workers remain the same throughout the year? What if a member of staff is 'weaker' than another??
