Talking And Thinking Books
by Guest- 13 replies

Hello, would just like to know if anyone in preschool/nursery were doing talking and thinking books? Went on an observation and planning course today and these were brought up very briefly, sounded very good, I managed to get hold of a book by Claire Warden (Mindstretchers) and it so far is an interesting read. Again problem is taking information back to setting and getting any interest. Was told on course it is a good way of showing evidence of childrens interests. Has anyone implimented them and how is it going? I am going to give it a go over the next few days and will gladly feed back if anyone interested.

we are an EY setting based in a community hall where every day we have to get everything out and then put it all away again. Our local authority have a universal planning form which we have been trialing for the last year+ but quite frankly it doesnt work for us so I am reviewing it so that it meets our needs, fits with EYFS and satisfys our local ethos.....would any of you be willing to share you planning forms with me so that I can see how others are doing it and see if there are any things which I could use which might enhance our provision and at the same time not take a year and a half each week to fill out? Ta very much mes amigos!

Well she came yesterday to assess if I was suitable to be the manager of the pre-school. I had not slept properly from getting the call on Thursday last week to say she was coming to see me. One of my staff daughter's got rushed into hospital the night before, so we were running around like headless chickens all morning before she came due to being a member of staff down. Well she turned up early and she was the nicest person I could have asked for to do the interview. She was lovely and she could see how nervous I was but she did everything possible to calm me down. After answering questions on safeguarding, complains etc. One hour later she told me I was suitable!!!!! F…

Hi, I am wondering if anyone could help me. I am a nursery teacher working in a 39 place school nursery. I normally have a morning session and an afternoon session of 39 children in each. However this year it has changed I now have some children who are doing 2 and 1/2 days. This is new for me and unsure how I can plan, track and assess for the morning/afternoon sessions plus for the children who are staying all day? Any advice will be greatly appreciated. Many Thanks

Hi all On the penultimate day of the autumn term (ie just before the Christmas party!), our first ever interactive whiteboard was delivered. I have been given the task of finding out how to use it and what is resources are available. I have had a quick look at Promethean planet, but find many resources are just too advanced for my youngest children - more approriate for Reception. However, I must admit I have not had a lot of experience with IWBs but am very willing to learn! Can folk tell me how they use their IWBs and what their favourite resources are? Thanks a million and happy new year everyone! cjules

Hello all I need your thoughts on the teaching of 2D shape. We recently had a staff meeting in which the way we teach shape in both 3 and 2 dimensions was discussed at length. I won't go into all of it but the upshot was that we should not teach 2D shapes with ones that could be picked up e.g. logi blocks or even laminated shapes that had been cut into squares, circles etc. The reason being that any shape that could be picked up has edges (even though on said card shapes the edges are microscopic thin) Now I can see that with logi blocks the edge is quite wide and therefore gives a face to the sides. However, I am struggling to teach the concept of 2D shapes. I have …

Planning On Display For Parents ?
by Guest- 13 replies

Hi, Back to pre-school soon and I am thinking about displaying something for the parents to see what the children are learning. The only problem here is we have 4 structured activities on the go each session, which are usually planned on an ongoing basis around the children's interests. So difficult to publish in advance an activity unless I get the team to plan the week before. How do others get around this eg. publishing plans to parents/visitors ? It was so much easier when we did a topic per term!!
