Speech Bubble-shaped Sticky Notes

Hello - somebody mentioned that they use speech bubble-shaped post-its to record language and put straight into learning journeys. Does anyone know where I can get these? I have looked on ebay and other places, but they seem so expensive £3.28 + £1.54 postage - just for one pad! We would use them so quickly - does anyone have a cheaper source or am I just being mean?

Role Play Area For Boys

Hi I am trying to get my head in school mode and thinking about my role play area. Normally i begin with a home corner and then the children when settled begin to plan and mind map as to what they want it to be. However this year I am conscious that most of my children are boys and may not be interested in a traditional role play area, although i want something to settle everyone in that needs little maintenence while we settle loads of new children in. would appreciate any ideas/successes in the past. thank you in advance.

Planning For New Nursery - Help!

Hi all, Well my colleague and I are now a week away from opening our brand new, purpose built nursery! After all the hassles of gaining planning permission, project managing, promoting, policy writing etc etc I am finally at the point that I need to think about some planning. I am trained as a teacher and have worked in a Reception class for the last 4 years. At school I always planned from the children's interests and planned loose topics around the areas that the children were excited about. I then pretty much let the children lead me through the topic as to the activities that I planned. At some points I also had a mini topic running alongside in order to cate…

Dear all, My setting currently writes 'progress summary reports' for each child when they are being planned for (every 8 - 10 weeks) - we highlight their age bracket (depending on information/observations we have) and say if they are emerging/developing/secure within each area. A parent has asked why her child is 'developing' within in age bracket in some areas and only either emering/secure in others. Does anyone have a simple answer.......that is parent friendly!

Hi everyone, Sorry in advance that this post is sooooo long to read !! Could I ask for advice please? I'm an NQT in an odd situation. I was only offered my job as a nursery teacher less than 2 weeks ago. This was due to a nursery deciding that they were going to split their intake into 2 classes and thus needed an additional teacher. I was very excited to have got the job but it's all such a muddle and a rush at the moment!!!! I had my induction day and got to meet parents last week on the same day!!!, which was quite intense! I was also told that I'm having to share a classroom with the other usual teacher while they are building my additional classroom as an ext…

Nursery And Reception Assessments
by Guest- 4 replies

Hi, I am responsible for overseeing a nursery class and a reception class. We are trying to formulate some kind of progress sheet / assessment which can be used for the 2 years children are with us. We obviously use FSP in reception - is this enough or should there be more? And what can we use in nursery? We have tried creating sheets using development matters but these seem to turn into 16 pages of tick sheets - not good when there are 50 nursery children. Basically - what do you use and are OFSTED happy with it?!

Hi everyone, I am looking for help! I have been away on Maternity leave and am going back to running a part time school Nursery. Whilst I'm looking forward to getting back into the swing of things I am panicking slightly! I was thinking the first week back would mainly be getting to know the children - setting up activities that were popular like playdough etc and actvoties about them and thier families, then do lots of obs and start any 'projects' based on observations made. Is this enough or should I have any long term goals in mind. I have a planner with key festivals and seasons etc on but not sure if I should have a bit more in mind? Please help! Thank yo…
