Child Staying At Nursery

Help! I have a child (EAL) in my nursery unit who has been with us only six weeks. The family has recently moved into the area and would now like him to attend our school in September. However, the school is full with 15 children on the waiting list; the parent has decided that she is not prepared to take him to the school he has been allocated (which was local to her before she moved) as she does not drive and has a younger child - it would take her 40 mins on the bus. She has contacted the LA who have offered her a choice of two nearby schools - she is still not happy and has decided that she will keep her child at nursery until a place is available at our school (she …

Hi Does anyone have lists of ideas they are willing to share or know of a web site where we can get some new ideas for key group time. Getting a bit stale with the activities we are doing and was hoping to revamp in September. Thanks

Hi All, In September I would like to change our key group time from a planned activity for all groups to take part in, to each key person being responsible for their own planning for their individual groups. Does anyone do it this way? How does it work and are you willing to share copies of plans etc? Thanks Radish

PLEASE can anyone help? As part of the ECaT project (Every Child a Talker) I am having an open morning next Thursday. I have been so busy with transfer documents etc etc that I have had little time to prepare for this. I have never had an open morning before and wondered if anyone else could give some tips, advice or ideas about activities they have done. Thank you!

It must have been asked before! Those of you with just one big room, how do you organise small group circle and story times? The main problem we find is the noise level, impossible to read/talk to a small group when the rest of the room is busy with other, more noisy, things! We do have an outdoor space and that can be used as another 'room' but not year round. Do you section off an area? I'm struggling with this- I know it's good practice but have never been able to successfully implement it. Any ideas gratefully received!

Planning For New Term...
by Guest- 4 replies

I am looking for some help and a chance to moan a bit. At the start of next term I will have 4 children in nursery, of these 4, 3 have additional support needs of varying degrees. My colleague and I are feeling a bit overwhelmed at the prospect of this. During induction I noticed that only 1 has any real colour recognition, so I thought this would be a good place to start, but colour recognition is no longer a part of the Scottish Curriculum. I am looking for ideas on activities and displays that I can use to stimulate some interest in the children. I know that having only 4 children sounds like bliss to everyone who has larger numbers, and ordinarily it would be…

Key Workers And Home Visits
by Guest- 2 replies

Hello lovely people, Have just been planning out all our home visits for September and myself and the Nursery nurse will be attending all of them - although we split the children between us as our key children. The question is....do you think its better for the childs key worker to talk to the parents or play with the child? Both have a lot of merit but I can't decide which would be best. I really want to develop the role of keyworker this year - and really want the parents to feel able to approach them with anything...but its also really good for the child to get to know the keyworker too! What do you think?

Can anyone suggest what to look for in order to mark a child off for 40-60months being creative - Make comparisons and create new connections?

Transfer Documents

Hi everyone! It's time for Transfer Documents again. Is anyone willing to share statements/comments made within the four principles? I'm getting fed up with the 'type' of statements that I tend to use and am looking for 'new' ways of saying the same thing! When on teaching practice, I was given a 'Primary Bank' of statements for reports (Reception/Year 1) which were very useful. It would be good to build up a 'bank' of statements for F1 (nursery). Currently, I tend to look at previous reports and tailor the comments to individual children. I use bullet points, usually 5-6, for each of the principles. I'd be very grateful if anyone would be willing to share their report…
