Just wondered when pre-schools/day nursery/childminders start preparing the transition paperwork for children who are leaving to go to school nursery & reception. I always end up in a mad rush at the end of term and I'm determined not to do it this year - but I feel it's still too early, or is it?

hello all I am about to undertake a little action research with our team regarding the types of talk that children are using with each other. I wanted to create a proforma in which we can identify and record the types of talk which goes on in the Nursery. has anyone done anything like this before I wonder? I have downloaded info from the National Literacy Trust about understanding the different types of talk but would be grateful if anyone has any experience of doing something like this? Any tips or pointers for carrying out the obs would be gratefully received. I should say that we do observe children but really wanted to tune in on the type child/child conversations …

We use Tapestry, have a laptop in the playroom and 4 Ipads. We are spilt into 4 key groups with 2 or 3 key people to each group, and each key person has some key children who they are primarily responsible for observing, etc. The Ipads are primarily for Tapestry. Least amount of key children per key person is 2 (me, due to having children leave), most is 7, average is 5. 1 key person only works 2 days but only has 3 key children. Most staff are in 'all day' (8.15 to 3.45, with children in from 8.30 to 3.30), and have the option to start earlier as I'm in from 8, &/or to stay to 4pm. We have a morning session from 8.30 to 11.30, lunch club attended by at t…

What do you say to a child who asks, "How do we get sausage and bacon from the pig, does he lay them?"

Hi, I'm really excited as I'm being allowed out to do home visits! I need some advice about what to take or do. I will be taking the I can statements from The eyfs as we have to have concrete evidence that we have taken the parent's views towards assessment and I was thinking of taking a class teddy who can have his/her picture taken with each child in their home and will be displayed in September. Any other ideas gratefully received! The parents will have been to a meeting at school so will have had the general information. Thanks, green Hippo x

Hi, Just wanted to start a little thread to discuss if and when you use stickers or other rewards. I posted a while ago about rewarding tidying-up and did some research on whether or not to reward good behaviour. During my teacher-training as well as a parents the emphasis has very much been on rewarding good behaviour - stickers, sticker charts, special treats and (most) children love them, however, I do want the children to learn the expected behaviour (i.e. not just for getting a sticker.) I haven't used stickers all year, the only reward I give is that the best helper gets to take the class teddy home. I do feel that stickers or little rewards have a motivating fact…

We have just been given this very large and very heavy reel. It is much bigger than I thought it was going to be. Has anyone any ideas? As you can see from the photo it is too high for the children to reach the top comfortably. I have lots of ideas for smaller ones but this one I need help with. I did wonder about cutting it in half to make two lower tables...... Please - any suggestions (apart from getting rid of it) Thanks V
