Hi, I was wondering if anyone has taken part or organised any moderation type activities related to the development matters bands more than the profile statements. I am going to be looking at this with my team tomorrow. I have found more materials to support making judgements around the profile statements than the age bandings. Obviously we can use our own learning journeys but if anyone has any ideas I'd be grateful. Thanks

After analysing the data we have, I now know what we need to focus on generally to support the cohort to reach the age related expectations and provision we need to provide. I have the observed children's interests and needs covered. In my continuous provision for each of ELG areas how many focuses do I choose for each day? After lots of reading and observing different examples, I feel I don't know which is best to manage Many thanks

Long-term Planning

I am a nursery teacher and, following advice from an EYAT, am in the process of overhauling my planning. I wondered if anyone can give advice/examples. Until recently I had long/medium and short-term plans as follows: long-term was an overview of topics and areas of learning for each half-term medium-term planning showed the half-termly topic broken down into the weekly focus and short-term planning showed what would be covered over the course of the week (not very child-friendly, I know) So all is now in the process of change. I think I've got to grips with the environmental map and PLODs (short-term plan) Also, the medium-term plan - an A4 sheet for each activity…

I don't think I've expressed myself very well in the title ... What we're after is a copiable set of letters so that we can spell out the children's names on laminated sheets, and then if they wish they can practise tracing over these, going in the right direction. This would be mainly for the 'red group', i.e. the older children going up to school in September. Some of them are already writing their names and we would like to support them in the correct letter formation. So basically I need a set of lower and upper case alphabet letters that I can cut and paste to create the various names. Does that make any sense? And has anyone seen such a thing? I've t…

Outdoor Play Area

We have a wonderful outside enclosed area, not very big but it has special matting so no grass, trees etc. It is surrounded by a wooden fence which is a bit bland. I have put up the large wheelie bin numbers at one end and butterfly mirrors on another part. At the lower end we erected a small football net (tied to the fence) and a few wash baskets with their bottoms cut out for basketball. At the end next to the building we have 4 windows, 2 of which have grills so we put on these 8 hanging bright colourful baskets which the children planted up - our nasturtium and sweet pea are coming up but the violas are crowding them out a bit! We do have some old pots and pans h…

Snack Time Buffet Style

We are trying to implement a buffet style snack time with just 3 children at a time and it is not working for us. We have separate toilets so have to take everyone down to wash hands. This is after having tidied the area they were playing in. 3 children are then offered snack while the other 3 move back to play. Our problem is those who are eating snack are very distracted by the others play and watch with so much interest they forget to eat at times! Then it is trying to get the next 3 to actually come to the table and eat. How do you organise your snack time?
