Mark Making

We opened our playgroup in January and our Registration Authority had a big part in what activities were available. They asked for both a junk art and a separate mark making area. To date our mark making area has never been used. We were asked to have a table that could seat 6 children comfortably beside a 8 container system rack containing junk art materials as well as a drawer system for paper. We have a separate table and chair beside this container system for the purpose of mark making. There is a container with pens and crayons beside this table as well as a small Vtech computer. We did put in a small magnetic board with letters and numbers in another container…

Themes As 'starting Points'
by Guest- 4 replies

In her book, 'Planning for the Foundation Stage', Penny Tassoni states that 'themes should reflect children's experiences, particularly around objects that they can see and touch'. I am overhauling my planning and read these ideas with interest. She advocates that the danger of using a concept such as 'opposites' is that children may not make the connection between the various planned activities; themes planned around experiences and objects, i.e. more 'concrete' and real are more likely to have relevance for children. So, I am looking for simple topics to be used only as starting points. After Easter I will have the topic of 'Wheels'; over the next two years I will als…

Hi I have looked through Insectlore catalogue and found a Root Vue Farm, which is a viewing window/tank that you can grow plants in and you can see the root system through the glass side and Wormvue Wonders which is a see through unit with lots of things with it (except worms!!). I was wondering whether any of you have had these in the past and if so, what you thought of them?? Thanks Sue J

Self Help - Psed

Just wondered if anyone out there could tell me in what way do you help your children to help themselves. I am thinking of things like dressing up for themselves, accessing materials etc We feel we have made our children too adult dependent and are looking for ways to improve this - just if I personally had a list that I could look at quickly and implement it on a day to day basis! Thank you in advance!

HELP I have a job interview coming up at a local schools pre school, I have been asked to plan then teach and evaluate a PSED activity to 6 children who are aged 3+ of mixed abilties. The school is in an under Privileged area so alot of them are behind in the development. I am really panicing about it cause I really want to impress them and do something different as i think alot of people will do simple things like drawing pictures of your family and talking about feelings ect. Any ideas would really help ( Thank you to those who have already helped me and given me ideas) Emma

Home Corner - Real Food

Another question from me! What do you put in your home corner that creates authenticity ie things children will see at home. We tried this month with a carrot and they were eaten very quickly!! We do have things like breakfast cereal boxes, egg cartons, butter and milk cartons but what else could we put in there?

What do the big theorists say on schematic behaviour? ....need some background research to back up why I'm observing schematic behaviour. Also how this links to 'enjoy and achieve outcomes' all ive got is they are going to enjoy the activities because they are personalised to what I have observed them doing but also they are going to achieve because I'm going to cover all aspects of the EYFS, does this sound about right? Arrrrggghhh stupid assignments

I am looking for an assessment tool and to inform next steps/targets for children with a particular need. I have found some some Ann Locke resources but am unsure which ones to buy.
