How Do I Tone Down My Voice?
by Guest terrydoo73- 14 replies

I have been told by my staff member that I need to tone down my voice ie I am too loud with children. How can I do this comfortably? I need strategies on how I myself personally can review what I am saying to children, how it is being said in such a way that they pay attention and listen to me without me getting annoyed and possibly going over the top in voice tone? I hope you understand what I mean but I have been pulled up about this a few times and feel now like I am in the principals office when I hear the word "we need to talk about how you deal with x!". By the way I am the leader and the staff member is my deputy!!

We are a packaway setting - renting a hall from a church. All equipment and resources have to be stored away every day as others use the hall. I was given permission to use some of the outside area for Pre-school children only. I used Capital Grant money to have a soft surface laid with bow topped fencing and gates around. I am not allowed to have any equipment set into the ground as it was thought it might encourage "vandals" to "loiter". Neither am I allowed to have any permanent fixtures on the walls or fencing. Well, this isn't really a problem as we have always had to work hard to get everything out and packed away on time. My question is - has anyone got any i…

Baby Room Observations And Next Step Planning
by Guest gemmafaith- 3 replies

Hello, The nursery I work in produces learning stories for all the children, consisting of observations then next steps and also wow moments sheets. However the baby room are struggling to use this system especially with the babies under a year, because the staff find it more difficult to form next steps out of any observations they make (due to the babies being so young it is not easy to identify next steps etc) I wondered if anyone else encounters the same problems? And if so how have you overcome the difficulties? Or if anyone has any ideas of what system we could for the baby room, it would be appreciated If anyone has any examples they could upload of…

Help please....I have a child you was 4 in October and so is one of my older children, he has always been ahead of his age/stage of development in terms of CLLD and PSRN areas of development and my main aim/individual planning for him has been to provide opportunities to promote his PSED, CD, areas of development (KUW and PD are both fine) - he comes from a very academic/intelligent family who say that at home their child 'wants' to do sums, write and read all the time and so they encourage it....they have assured me they dont force it upon him but do celebrate his interests and try to nurture it appropriately....and so this has meant he writes a lot at nursery, his own i…

I provide activities but they do go off task and get really silly with each other so i need to try and address this- it must be the activities that i am providing so if any of you lovely people have any great ideas i would be really grateful. We do the usual like Tuff spot and stories, chalking on the play ground floor and they like the fly swats and HFW's. Looking for some new refreshing ideas. looking at the development matters / transition records for a child in my setting, this child is very inconsistant in his abilities -one moment he is able to name a colour, the next moment all colours are 'blue' (for example). he may be able to name a farmyard animal -the next breath all the animals are 'pigs' ( for example), he may ride a trike safely etc one moment , the next he's a hazard on 3 wheels lol ! im having difficulty in assessing where he actually is on the development matters - as im assuming he has to be consistantly and comfortably acheving the 'aim'. this child will be beginning school in sept, and the majority of his development matters are…

I have a staff member who is fab however she isn't experienced in the EYFS. The children love her though and we had adequate staff with qualifications. Can anyone point me in the direction I need of where I can gain information for her to enable her to understand what needs to be included in observations? Or any tips/hints I can give her please?
