Hi all Superv!isor is concerned that with all this free play that the children arent learning. We have self registration while the children are coming in. Then we have sit down reg with signing good morning, answering name and then sometimes a little activity for 5 mins. (3- 4yr olds only). The under 2yrs old are in another room doing total free play. We have various activities out for children to then choose but the older boys do not get focussed on anything and tend to run around the room. For this reason our PVI teacher (advisor) told us to open outside too. Worked well as boys went straight outside. But supervisor still thinks this does not work! Outside is good …

Hi this is my first post, so I hope I’m posting in the correct section. Apologies if this post is a bit lengthy but I need to get this off my chest and thought you helpful people might be able to put things into perspective for me. I’m an NQT working in a Nursery attached to a school. I absolutely love the chn but the school is getting me down. The school is used to a more formal approach to teaching Nursery, where chn sit on the carpet for long periods of time writing letters and numbers. I had a Nursery placement in a nursery that follows the Reggio Emilia approach so I’m used to something quite different. I absolutely loved my placement school and it is held as a b…

Hi all. I'm just starting to set up a tuff spot in my nursery classroom. I had to do some research to work out what one is because I've never come across one before! Anyhoo, our current theme is 'birthdays' with a focus on shapes and colours. Any ideas on how to set up my tuff spot with this in mind? Thanks in advance

Hi Guys, Done anyone have a list of Maths/Problem Solving activities for 2.5 - 5 year olds that I could give to staff to use in the planning? Like many other nurseries (I am sure) - PSRN seems to be the area where children/staff are not keen to explore. Thinking if I had a list, staff will put more excitment into this area Thanks

Hello everyone. I still seem to be struggling to get my head around planning, and would appreciate any words of wisdom please. I've recently taken over a pre-school, which had no record keeping on the children, and, to be honest, not much planning, certainly not to children's needs/interests. I have been given a long term plan which has 2 areas from the Development matters to concentrate on each week. This week it is Creative Development: Developing Imagination and Imaginative Play, and Physical Development: Movement and Space. I feel I have to stick with this long term plan as it's been given to me. Does anyone else plan to a prescribed long term plan? I underst…
