hi all, I was wondering if anyone could help me, im on my final teaching practice in a nursery setting. Ive been able to enhance most of the areas regulalry with ideas ive found from here (of course) and those ive seen in other settings, all except the bike area outside. so far we've added supermarket signs, zebra crossings, car park spaces with numbers, round abouts and other road markings but now they seem to be getting board with them and are just riding around aimlessly. does anybody have any other ideas that i could use in this area? or if you know of any places that i could buy resources from to put in this area?, as its manily paper made or chalk markings. …

Hi All, I have been looking through several topics of discussion and reading about recording assessments and observations of children. At the nursery I work, we have a sheet for observations with 6 boxes according to the area of development and then a sheet for goals to concentrate in future. I will try and attach a copy.. I am looking at new ways to record the goals to help parents understand where their child is at and contribute, does anyone have any other ways they use or possible ideas? Thanks Charly

Hi, Just a quick question, I have found some fab cp documents on here and it has really helped me as we have none in our school. As I am in Nursery I wanted to know what I should be using in the development matters/ objectives section - a lot of cp documents have the ELGs, should I be using them? Thanks

Hi some advice please, I have been using small paper name strips for the children to name their work. Each child has a pocket of ready made names that they can independantly stick on any work they make, they also use them to name models they want to keep and things for other children. I have found it works well once they know the routine. However it has been suggested that the children should be mark making their own names, some do and I encourage and support this but many aren't keen to try until they develop more confidence. What do other people think/do?

Next Weeks Plan Of Action
by Guest- 4 replies

Hio everyone, just wondering what everyones plan of action is for next week!!! I'm in Reception and was hoping to get some assessments done on basic number, colour and shape recognition. IO really dont want the approach though of each child having a tick bosx of which numbers he / she knows colours etc. Could I do an adult led activity i.e finding numbers in the sand, or sorting into colours etc. Or do you think thats all a little to formal still. Maybe I'm totally wrong and should just pure;ly focus on PSE, would love to hear what you guys are doing out there. xxxxx

Hi I've heard of a setting who sing a version of 'two little dickie birds' to send two children off at a time to wash their hands for snack say, and I wondered if anybody knows all the words or indeed anything similar? Thanks Deb

Hi everyone, what a fantastic site! I have just joined but have been admiring from a far for a while. I am head of an early years department, with 3 Playgroup classes (chn join in the year they are turning 3), 3 Nursery classes and 3 Reception classes. I was just wondering if anyone had examples of daily planning or weekly planning for Playgroup/Nursery children. I feel that what we currently have is to rigid and not demonstrating the child initiated play that takes place. Any ideas will be welcomed. Thank you xx
