Yes I know its planning again one day I will be able to have a post that doesnt mention this god awful subject! We are having trouble with a. how to show this and feed it into our weekly planning. b. How many times to be target/focus on each child each half term Some keyworkers feel that they should be the ones supporting the next steps while others feel all staff should holistically play with t…

Advice On New Job A Bit Rusty

Hi All I am starting a new job in September as a nursery nurse in a school nursery which I am very excited about. I have worked in early years settings but mainly management roles so I was wondering what you fellow nursery nurses consider the role of the nursery nurse in free play and what you would like a new worker to do or not do. I did go in the nursery for a day but got very little(none) instruction which I found quite hard as I did not know what was expected of me or the children. I want to make a good impression but I am having a few wobbles. Thank you for any advice

Hello everyone, I am looking for a bit of advice again and hope you will be able to help. I am starting in a Catholic school (nursery) in September and wondered if any of you have had a similar dilemma? How do you explain the idea of God to such young children? I also know none of them are actually Catholics(!) so won't have any prior knowledge. There is a lovely scheme in place with quite specific lesson plans very suited to the age range but as I have to use prayers regularly I wanted them to have some idea of who they were talking to. I'm conscious of approaching it correctly and sensitively. I have worked in Church schools before from reception age and t…

We no longer use long term plans and plan weekly/daily but there is something bothering me still about our planning!! On reflection there is no real substance to our topics! As we follow children's interests we dont seem to follow them through especially as children no longer access their hours over 5 days but perhaps come 2 half days. so for instance when I think back we have covered a good range of topics but by the time we plan crafts, friezes visits etc they have moved on. For instance when doing Pets in the 'old days' a whole week would be planned with visits from childrens pets a visit to the pet shop, a vet, role play pet shops and vets, stories etc and by the end…

We are having a new nursery teacher in September and so far we have been using the development matters statements and the CT highlights ones that the child has 'achieved'- good for showing progress- but we are wondering if we need to reference on the sheet the evidence that has been collected in the same way you would for the profile in Reception. Can we just highlight when looking through evidence or does it need to be clearer than that? Any advice please?

Hi Everyone We're doing all of the usual things to encourage talk in our nursery but I'd really like some new ideas for activities/room/area organisation which would encourage more talk between the children. Please help! thanks Julie

I have staff that have just been on a training course about how we should now go down the route of calm colours and less stimulation for children. Is it just me or are we going round in circles. I must have been in the game to long because I am sure that this was something we used to do a long time ago. Natural colours and natural things to play with. Do you think they do it so that we have to keep buying new things. It makes us keep other businesses in business. Like machines that only last 2 years so you have to keep buying new ones. Sorry rambling a bit been a long week I have help move a fridge into a young mums flat. and next week I'm taking a mum who doesn't …
