OK so we have had PLODS in place for a year and they just aren't working and so we need to try something new for September. Many of the staff have struggled with them and want to go back to topics as they feel more secure and think the children get a greater breadth of experiences from topics, which I don't agree with. I have read some of you plan for the 6 areas of learning and I would be grateful if you could let me know how you have found this in practice and how you link it to the children's interest - examples would be great too Thanks

As you can imagine I feel quite deflated with recent events. I'd be grateful if you could let me know what AL activities or exciting CL activities you are doing for the next couple of weeks? My mind is blank. Thank ppp

Display Boards

Hi Everyone, After a bit of inspiration really from you all! I have got two huge display boards in my setting, we don't generally have themes, my planning is based on childrens interests, so one week it could be space and the next it is farmers and their tractors! I just want to know how you do use your display boards, do you make beautiful displays based on interests and then change the boards when the interests change? Which would be very regular! I would like to have an Art Wall - where children display their own work, maybe I could combine their interests and their work with the theme! However I could be re-doing the boards every week. I am als…

Sen If Parent Refuses Assessment
by Guest- 14 replies

Hi, we have a child who has some kind of behavioural difficulty (I suspect ADHD or similar). The symptoms are all there and we had asked the local area SENCO to come in and assess, but unfortunately the child was away the day she attended. Our SENCO has talked the area SENCO through the behaviours that have been observed by staff, and she is in agreement that there is probably a behavioural special need going on. However ... our SENCO has asked the parent to agree for her to send in an assessment form to the LEA to request support and input, but the parent refuses to agree to this. What is our position in this situation? Presumably the parent has a right to ref…

Tractor Mad Child

What else can I do for a child who seems surgically attached to his tractor! Dad is a farmer so understandable, but recently it is all he will play with. Has been interested in all sorts of things before, but now the tractor comes in with him in the morning and doesn't leave his side. We have transported, counted, added (wheels on two tractors etc) I printed out pics to colour, talked about red tractor week we have sown seeds planted potatoes. He goes to school in September so it could be a comfort thing but I'm concerned because he won't be encouraged to take in large toys at school. Any ideas welcome Rachel
