Can someone please tell me why the eyfs statements do not match to the profile points exactly......Aaarrrggghhh. It drives me mad that the paperwork that costs millions to set up does not relate to each other.....Sorry having a bad day can't even find 'blends words in sounds' in the eyfs documents but is one of the profile criteria

Hi There Our children lack experiences and we find it really difficult to encourage their inquisitive side. They do formulate and ask questions but on the whole they are of the 'Can you put my name on please?', 'Can I have that?' type rather than asking questions to find out about things/the world etc. If anyone has got any really good ideas to promote inquisitive questionning please can you let me know? thanks in advance Julie

Hi all! I have an interview later this week for a Nursery Teacher post and part of my interview is to observe some children of my choice and complete an observation form the setting currently use - which is not a problem, had plenty of experience of observing children in EYFS previously. However looking over the observation proforma I've been given a copy of, within the 'Context' box (i.e. what context the observation is in) it says in the bottom right "Zone of Initiative: 1 2 3 4". I've never seen this before! Obviously I need to circle one of the numbers. But I've searched on these forums and on Google and can't find a trace of the term 'zone of initia…

Hi I am looking for your help and experience.. I am an outreach worker working in a children’s centre, we are planning to run six weeks sessions in the Summer for children starting school in September. This is aimed at getting children ready for school, we will be identifying and focusing on those children who are likely to underachieve. Its going to link with the EYFS and in particular social and emotional development. I would like to plan activities over the six weeks, involving the parents and children, im hoping that you may come up with some great practical suggestions, A few I have already have are ; story time –good listening messy play, pl…

Hi just wanted to know what activities do you do with the children who are leaving in September to go to school. We find that they become bored of playing with the activities and just want to run around with the stickle bricks and make weapons, Sometimes it can be very hard work. We have noticed changes in them especially the boys. They don't want to sit and make a train track anymore. Dorinda

Assessment/recording

You would think by now that we would all know what we are doing but I am still unsure!! I left childcare nearly a year ago amid lots of confusion over planning/recording etc and now I have an interview and would like to at least sound like I know what I'm doing! I really like the Southampton Learning Journey and have tried to adapt it to suit my previous setting. Since rejoining this invaluable forum I have also looked at the PRAMS and think that this is a great resource! So, my question is: If each child has a learning journey and their achievements are also recorded on the PRAMS is this the only paperwork required? Obviously there will be sticky notes,…

Profiles

Hello everyone, We are thinking about changing how we keep profiles on our children. As our setting in based at a school (although not a school nursery) the reception teacher has recommended The Pedagogs, which follows the EYFS and goes with them into reception. Looks nice and bright and fairly easy to follow, bit concerned on where we would store the evidence, but we can look into that, was just wondering if anyone use this system or heard of it before? Thanks, Cheryl x
