Wax Resist

Hi Can anyone help me out please - One of my staff had a fantastic morning with unplanned spontaneous wax relief painting - so good that we have made a whole display board of the children's fantastic pictures. I now want to help my colleague label the display using bits and pieces from the EYFS and perhaps what the learning intention could have been (had it been planned if you know what I mean?) however I am struggling to think what we could put - any inventive label ideas either from a science perspective or from the 4 principles to support the display? I want to avoid too much focus on the Creative area of learning as we have a lot of displays with this area covered w…

Reflection Area

We have just had OFSTED and this has triggered a church inspection (CofE) after the holidays. I am supposed to set up a reflection area on a small table in the Nursery. I have found a cross and some childrens Bible stories to put on the table. Was just wondering if anyone else has had experience of a this or has any ideas. We are going to read Little Red Hen when they come in so might also put some objects/pictures related to the story on the table.

Evidencing Next Steps
by Guest- 16 replies

Currently, our observation sheets have a section at the bottom for the next steps for that child based on the observation. Some of them can be dealt with by continuous provision, others that require a planned activity are entered onto a planner, and then ideas are used at planning meetings. However, unless we observe each next step, there is no actual evidence that we carried it out. I am getting a bit bogged down in paper work and need a quick and easy system to keep tabs on whether activities are coming into practice or not! Would be great to get some ideas from people. I did add extra at the bottom, but I think that will prove unwieldly. The alternative is …

A Walk In The Village Park
by Guest colechin- 4 replies

Happy Easter everyone. When we go back after Easter I am planning on taking small groups of children to the local village park. This was a recommendation by Ofsted when they recently visited us, asking us to use the local community facilities. I have done a risk assessment for the walk to the park, using the stream, park equipment, park area and I have also had someone in to look for deadly plants! Has anyone out their sent letters to parents explaining the purpose of nature walks, visiting parks etc and does anyone already have a planning or learning intentions for this activity that they could share with me? During this holiday I will be catching up with all…

Help Assessing Fs1 Children
by Guest- 5 replies

Hi everyone, We have set up a new Foundation Stage Unit in our school this year which is working really well. We have a key worker system in place and the FS1 children really seem to look up to and learn from the FS2 children.A long time has been spent sorting out planning and timetables and seems to be working well. HOWEVER.... I feel like I am drowning under all the assessment. We assess the children on the development matters 30-50, 40-60 statements and the FS2 children on the Profile points also. We aim to collect 3 bits of evidence for each, showing the child is able to achieve the objective both adult led and independently in a range of contexts. I feel ther…

I have done a search but no luck so far. A few weeks ago I came across an observation sheet with some Wellbeing and Involvement scales. There was also a link to a website where these scales came from. But now I can't find it. Can you help me? Thanks.

Is it just me or does anyone else sometimes have trouble interpreting quite what certain sentences in the development matters mean? I am on creative development and what to know whether one of my little Key Cherubs can "differentiate marks and movements on paper" however, I can guess about 6 slightly differing meanings for this - none of which is probably what they ar looking for! I have looked in the "Look Listen and Note" for clues but am still not sure! Can anyone give me a definition/ concrete example?? Many thanks x
