A number of girls are struggling with linking obs into the eyfs. They seem to get really bogged down with the areas of learning and development especially using the book in the pack. Has anyone got any suggestions on how I can help them?? I tried to suggest to them that the more they do it the easier it will become as they will get used to it, but they are struggling even to start. Any help will be very much appreciated

Hello Just had a parent ask me about colour blindness and unfortunately I do not have a clue. Her child is having problems 'remebering what is red and what is green'. She has asked if there is a way of telling and if it's too early to tell. Any advice would be greatly appreciated, so that I can pass it on. Sorry forgot to say, he is going to school in September. Thank you x

We are having a visit form our local birds of prey centre this week who will be bringing along a selection of owls to show the children. Whilst we don't usually plan to topics I'm sure this will spark a lot of interest from the children (Owl babies is their favourite story anyway which is why we booked the visit) so am looking for some activities we can plan to extend their play and interest in this area. We will be making chocolate nests, I thought about an investigation table with a selection of sticks, bark feathers etc, maybe bird seed cakes, setting up role play area as a bird watching hide and obviously reading the story Owl babies. Any other ideas? or do you thi…

Hey all, Firstly let me apologise if this is a long post! I am a returning pre-school supervisor, I ran a unit 2 years ago and then went into nannying for a while and now I'm back to running a pre-school. When I left, we used the 'old' early years foundation, the 6 areas of learning were used but things were definately different then than they are now!! The nursery I have joined currently has no pre-school, so I am in setting that up at the minute and planning is currently my biggest issue. The planning sheets the nursery use, I feel, are not appropriate. I would like the planning sheets to show daily activites, currently the nursery does not have daily plann…

Shared Learning Journal?
by Guest- 6 replies

Hi, I have a child who has started this week. She will be coming for 3 hours a week until July. We only have this one slot left and her Mum mistakenly thinks coming to our pre-school for one morning a week will strengthen her school place appeal. Hmmmmm...... I calculate that she will be with us for about 19 half days in total (about 9 full days) It seems crazy that I have to set up another learning journal for the tiny amount of evidence I am going to get. She already attends another setting for 4 mornings a week and has been doing for a year. Could I justify keeping some evidence and sending it to the other setting to put into their folder. Surely that …

Anyway not long now till easter hols & trying to get ahead of myself as getting a first year student in rec for her placement next half term. Just wondering if any of you guys out there have any ideas for nursery rhymes next half term. Given the chance my kids would stick with Humpty Dumpty OR Twinkle Twikle....which is great but want to introduce others such as Sing a song of sixpence that rarely gets sung etc. Would love any ideas on nursery rhymes as a topic. Hi everyone, please could you help me. Over the last 4 weeks several mums have approached me (I think they have been talking together) about their children being gifted and bored at Nursery. They would like me to start introducing 'reading' to their children so that they are ready for Reception in September. I have spoken to the School's Reception teacher who has invited me to sit in on her Phonic classes. She has said that she would be happy for me to introduced Phase 2 to the Nursery children as this would help her when they start in September. She has given me copies of the 'Learning the Letter Sounds' from Jolly Phonics. I am very happy to have a go and h…

We've got a couple of these big red spinning tops that the children sit inside and rock around... I'm sure I've seen these in a catalogue used with a stand and as a water tray. Does this ring any bells with anyone else? IF so, where might it have been? Thanks you again!
