You may well have posted them before, but I just saw the example of your mini observations for each statements, and think they are brilliant! Do you just fill out these sheets or have a general learning journey as well?? These sheets would really help some of my staff cut down on the amount of observations they do that really don't cover anything at all. Would you mind sharing them all? I'll understand if you don't wish to Thanks Clare

Tracking Observations
by Guest- 11 replies

Hi all, I was just wondering if anyone else has had similar advise about observations from an EY advisor. I teach the Nursery class in a school and for both us and Reception it is suggested we have a tracker for the focused observations. We have a grid with week 1, 2, 3 etc at the top and down the side it has each learning area. The grid shows that on week 1, for example, we target our observations on PSE, week 2 CLL-LCT, week 3 is CLL- R etc. This covers a term and then we repeat this for the next term. I hope this makes sense! Trouble is, I find this far too restricting in Nursery as the focused observation usually links to the focused task. I find it doesn't always fit…

Recording What Happens Each Day
by Guest- 5 replies

Hi everyone, I'm just having a reflective moment....... I'm trying to streamline my end of the day review (personal), a kind of record of events,.....and am stuck! Usually, i record what toys and equipment the children accessed (inside and out), what resources they used in the creative area, stories and audio tapes listened to, fab child led moments, adult initiated learning, and any other significant (IMHO) details. The trouble is that I'm writing more and more! can anyone tell me how they record 'what they've done each day'? oh, I forgot to mention that I work in a nursery class attached to a school!

Science Week

Just wondered if any of you are planning any activities as a part of science week, our feeder primary school has planned a whole week of activities and I thought it might be nice if we also introduced the children to some science based activities. I thought maybe some magnet play, making discovery bottles and maybe gloop or slime made with borax. Anyone have any other ideas our children are 2-4 and I want to make this as fun as possible but also relevant to their stages of development. Their main interests at the moment are dinosaurs, books and fire fighters.

Compost, Is It Safe
by Guest- 9 replies

Good evening everyone, Could any of you knowledgeable people tell me whether compost is safe for the children to play with? One of my staff has said that they think that there is a lot of chemicals in it and the children should not be playing with it. I think that as we have been using it for several years to no adverse effect and the children are well supervised then I see no problems. What do you think? Thanks Lardylady
