Hello everyone, hope your half term break has started well! I am in the process of planning an outing for one of my BA Hons Assignments and wouldlike your opinions. The module we are currently looking at is focusing on potential for learning outside of the setting outdoor environment. We have to plan and carry out an outing, which extends children's learning. Over the last couple of weeks, I have noticed that some children in our pre-school have shown an interest in acting out fires in the home. We have a role play fire extinguisher which is often being used in these emergencies, with children, both boys and girls, running to the phone and 'calling' the fire briga…

Settling In Plan

Hi all, Had out joint annual review with our EYAT and feel very positive about it all. She was very supportive and valued us and what we were doing. You come away from a meeting like that feeling inspired and ready for the next steps. One action that was suggested was that we develop a 'settling in plan' for the new children, with perhaps a sheet of a few questions that the parent can fill in with their child before they start pre-school. Perhaps - What food do you like? What are your favourite toys? Does anyone have some suggestions what else to ask or any other ideas? Thanks for the help Scottiedog

Please can anyone help me from going round in circles? I found the most brilliant resources yesterday posted by a member - a children's centre i think. They were play recipe cards for all sorts of different things and would be really useful for the EYFS course i'm putting together. Your help would be totally appreciated x

With regard to the taking records home and the issue that i have had - in that I have said no one can take them home to complete as their are photographs etc etc, I thought long about doing this as I knew potentially it could cause trouble - as staff usually find it easier to complete at home - however all staff, except one, have got used to the new way and get paid for their time at the setting to do their childrens development records - but no one can take them home....it is sooo frustrating as I have just been in to work (to do my records) and the staff member who is against the rule has taken all of her key children's records home.... I feel cross as I would like …

does anyone use 'wow' cards to share children's achievements with parents? I have heard of these but would be interested to hear of anyone who uses them and what they think of them?

hi, just wondered if I could pick your brains about sharing information among settings. I am in a pre-school playgroup and the info would be shared with an afterschool group. what info do you share and how do you do it? a book? meetings? do you share each others planning?? any examples of what you do would be great, i have one idea and the rest of the staff and leader ahave other ideas! one says its all confidential, but i say not, one says we cant ask paretns to transport it, i think we can. few other points we also disagree on so would like to know if i am wrong! thanks
