Sharing Profiles With Parents?
by Guest- 13 replies
- 2.4k views
I've always felt that profiles are a lot of work for staff, and that they end up getting passed over when a child leaves, but that they don't really fulfil their potential while in use. At our setting they're almost like some kind of sacred document that no one wants to touch! Is there anything to stop us sharing profiles with parents on a regular basis? I was thinking we could put these in the children's trays, and set up a space where parents could sit and look through them. Obviously they couldn't take them out of the setting, but this would give them a bit more time to see how their child is progressing, to get more of an idea about what we do in session, and a…

Hi All, I had a long hard day today and my brain just does not want to work at the moment!!! I work in a pre-school and we have had some feedback from a survey we have just carried out. A lot of our parents have been asking when we are going to teach their children to write their names! Does anyone have a short reply I could perhaps use as a response as to why all the gross and fine motor skills etc. need to be developed before handwriting can be perfected. Thank you all. Scottiedog

Planning For Carpet Time
by Guest- 5 replies

I've recently started teaching in the pre-school class of a private day nursery. I am a bit concerned about how the planning is recorded. At the moment, 5 adult-led plans are done per week (between the 3 staff in the room), these activities are carried out during 'free play' time. There are also 3-4 10 min carpet sessions per day (I know this amount isn't ideal - but due to the size of the room - ie. tiny! - we have no choice, having to allow for preparing the room for and cleaning up after meal times.) We do a variety of stories, singing, letters and sonunds, numeracy games etc etc... the usual stuff, but my issue is that none of these sessions are planned for in t…

Outdoors Ideas

Hi, We ran out of time at this week's planning meeting and I am now sitting at home trying to fill in the gaps. Have become quite stuck lately on ideas for outside. We have to go out for a distinct time on a grassy field and have to take anything with us that we want to use. At the moment the ground is wet so harder for them to sit down and play with equipment. What are other folks doing outside at the moment?
