Hi, Im in my third year at university currently doing my dissertation. I am researching the importance of mark marking and what resources early years practitioners provide for mark making. I also want to find out whether or not practioners feel confident with mark making and if there is a lack of training for this particular area. Any opinions or advice would be apreciated, Thanks!

Hi Just wondering what others use to moniter progress in preschools. Have been reading the nat stratergies new document and I'm beginning to feel that although the gov keep saying children are at the heart of every thing and the EYFS is based around childrens interests. That really it is about a creation of a mountain of paper. When do other find the time to do all these assessments? I am rambling sorry but feel the time with the children is so important and more is been taken away to write eveluations and observations. What happened to conversation betwwen professionals about next steps and achievements that didn't have to be written down and accounted for but relied on …

Thinking about next week... We ended the term on 'Light and dark' and the children kept introducing 'dragons' into their play so I think that would make a good starting point this term(although as my husband says 'they'll probably have forgotten all about that now so start with whatever you like'!) We want to try and cover objectives about story this term, re-telling familiar tales, joining in, characters, illustrations etc and were also thinking about dragons and Chinese new year. At a quick end of term meeting we thought we would start with 'dragons and castles' but the more I think about it the harder it is as I don't think there are actually any traditional st…

Hi everyone, Hope you had a good break from work if you got one. I am currently working as a nanny (unregistered at the moment but am planning to get registered). As a nanny you don't seem to get mentor meetings, training opportunites etc. Until now I have done no written reports, planning etc on the children in my care as it has never been requested. I do tailor the day to meet the childrens needs I just don't document it anywhere. Anyway I have decided that I want to start using planning, creating a learning journies etc, now here comes the silly question. What are the early years foundation stage profiles? I have done a search on the internet and found guide…

Hi, Recently had school nurse in to talk about how we promote healthy lifestyles and she asked if we did P.E. Currently we don't have a hall slot but do small group sessions in class or outdoor P.E. type activities e.g. sticky kids, dancing to music, ball skills, paracute etc as well as 10 minutes exercise with reception first thing in the morning. She suggested that we should use the apparatus in the hall and even use the climbing frame with adult supervision!!! Do other's in Nursery do P.E. in hall/outdoor as whole class? Is this every week or less frequent? What sorts of activities do you do? Thanks Green Hippo

Hi, I was talking to a colleage last weeek and she mentioned tow lovely books for outdoors. I can't remember all the titles, but perhaps someone knows? One was caled 'Christophers........?' About a rabbit who eats dandelions! The other was about a small furry animal (squirrel I think) who takes risks. I think he keeps falling out of a tree? Sounds a god story for risk taking. Sorry to be so vague, but they sounded realy lovely stories. Thank you sunshine
