Hi, I was wondering where you would expect a typically developing 48 month old child to be within the EYFS - age range and refinements? Would you expect them to be secure 30-50 or emerging or developing 40-60?

Hi, I was talking to a teacher in another school about how we have come away from individual next steps as we use objective led planning crossed with Anna Ephgrave style in the moment planning. She was interested and told me that her SMT would expect the children in Nursery to know their next steps! This is not something I've heard of for a while and certainly not what we've experienced from our Ofsteds. Is this something that anyone else has experienced as something that Ofsted would be looking for? More importantly is it actually beneficial to the children. A 3/4 year-old may be able to tell you that s/he is learning his/her numbers 1-5 but I doubt that would make them…

Snack time 1 2

I'm interested in hearing how other settings do their snack time..... I did snack at our setting yesterday for the first time in ages, and it was crazy. I was up and down so much, getting bowls, more food, clearing and cleaning that I didn't spend hardly anything with the children chatting, that it really upset me. I've always been an advocate for the adult present making it a social learning experience for the children, and it opened my eyes that currently the system we have in place can't be seeing as I was barely sat with them! So I'm really interested in how others dop their rolling snack, so we can put some changes into how ours is going right now.... Many…

Hi! We seem to be lacking a bit this year for observations on People & Communities and The World which has made me consider whether we're offer enough in the provision for these areas. I know that we often get observations for these areas in the warmer months and when the children's language and confidence has develop enough for us to share their thoughts and experiences. Has anyone any ideas for resources to include in provision to promote these aspects? We are going to do some things next week around changes (for our Objective Led Planning) but many of the things that we are doing would have to be with an adult (e.g. baking, making jelly, melting an ice-cube). So…
