Hi all After half-term we are going to have a 'themed week' ........hmmm........seemed like a good idea at the time! So Pirates and Princesses........I have already let parents know about this and suggested that children may like to come 'dressed up' or if not bring something for 'show and tell'.... I am going to take my grandson's pirate ship in - shhhh don't tell him!.... Will bury some 'treasure' in the sand tray..... I have some 'Princess books' - no Pirates though - will visit the library...... Any other ideas? Thanks Sunnyday

Daily Safety Check Of Outside Area?
by Guest- 5 replies

Hello everyone, I am expecting the big "O" any day now and had an early year adviser to see me on Friday with some helpful tips. She said that I should be checking the outside area for safety every day, which I do anyway, but should be recording it as evidence. She suggested making a "Safety Sweep" grid for the week, which I have done and have attatched. Could you please have a look and see what else I might have forgotten!! Many thanks. I am new to Nursery (and also this forum ) I have previous years planning to use "as a safety net" say SMT but I need to take ownership of it; problem is I don't really know where to start- do I plan activities and then see what DMs/Stepping stones fit into it? Am I using the EYFS or DM's to plan/assess from? I am getting very confused and don't feel like any of the Early Years team can help really. Ideas/help gratefully appreciated thank you!!

At my setting, we seem to be making a mountain of paperwork out of planning adaptations for the individual child following observations. This is how the paper trail currently works: 1. Observation made and recorded. This is written up in child's learning journey (normally in more than one area of learning, as let's face it most obs cover several areas). If it gives rise to a planning adaptation and /or learning goal then get's raised at our staff meeting, and ... 2. Noted on child's individual learning plan. 3. Noted on weekly planning ammendment sheet (a summary of all obs leading to planning changes) 4. Noted on overall planning summary sheet (to show h…

Hiya, using ideas and examples from here and all over the internet I have changed our planning... (still got to decide on a final focus plan format). (we are pack away preschool). I've attached it all as I hope someone can use parts of it... thank you to all of you helpful people on here!!!!! (the long term plan also includes continuous provision documents but I've not uploaded them as I don't know who/where I adapted them from, suffice to say, the long term also consists of continuous provision plans) We have a reflective planning meeting every week where the team comes together with obs and we decide on what we need to add/adapt etc. and discuss children'…

I am new to the foundation stage this year. I am teaching in a school nursery which has 48 part time children. I have been given an electronic system of tracking childrens progress which starts at 22-36 months. It is called the EYROA and I am led to believe is only used in Manchester??? Anyway, it is AWFUL!!! And to make matters worse my EYFS leader won't continue with it in reception because she doesn't like it but is still expecting me to complete it for nursery. Obviously I have a profile for each child which I keep my observations in, but need some way of keeping track of the whole groups progress. Any ideas?? How are other people doing this?? And if you …

Learning Journey's Again!

I knew this area was going to be one to tackle in my job, but I had no idea how much, my problems is also how to tackle it as most of my current changes have been received well, or agreeably, some don't like them but know 'they have to be this way' in a sense to keep up with the EYFS and the merger of our preschool into an FSU. However I know that learning journey's are a big issue to all the staff and am aware I need to tackle this sensitively as this is the one area that could end up really upsetting staff having done it their way for so long. They are currently locked away in a filing cabinet.....so folders have been ordered and they all know that we are going…
